Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Fueling Problems", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Ever since syphoning some fuel out for my lawn mower (yeah, I know, evidently a dumb move. Hindsight)
I have had problems fueling at full steam, anything over a trickle and the pump triggers to shut off like the tank is full.
Any idea on the mechanicals down the pipe and possibly what I did ?? Any help would be appreciated, I'm sick of taking 20 minutes to fill my tank.
or maybe the gas station's pump is bad, try another pump. sometimes the pump won't give full flow if i 'seal' it. i have to barely insert the tip to get full flow. which is opposite of how it's supposed to work, since it should seal to prevent gas fumes leaking out.
If you have an extended warranty, I would take it to the dealership and play dumb.

Why would the so-called extended warranty pay to fix this item? If it's one of the contracts with a small list of excluded conditions, maybe. If it's the usual contract, forget it. What we erroneously call an extended warranty does not extend the original factory warranty and is legally not a warranty at all. It pays for the repairs that the fine print on the contract says it'll pay for.

I have a 2000 tundra that has also gotten quite hard to fill, but have not syphoned any gas out of it. I would love to know if there is some sort of valve or filter that may be clogged. Mine has a locking gas tank door so I doubt anyone else has done anything to it either, but who knows for sure.
If I could disassemble it and look inside I would.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this issue? I filled up my new "pre owned" 2006 Tundra DC today and found the same issue. Anymore than a trickle down the filler neck and the shutoff vavle in the pump nossle triggers. It's still under warranty but I'm just curious if anyone else knows the answer.
Wow, this was so long ago but I'm happy to answer since my Cards took care of your 'boys today ! (barely !)
My Tundra is long gone, but If I remember right, there is some sort of flap a foot or two down, I threaded a piece of stiff wire down there, i think a straightened out coat hanger, and popped the flap back in to working condition. I think when i pulled the syphon hose out, it pulled the flap back too far and it locked in to place. might even be some sort of anti-siphon type thing.
Anyway, once I gave it a shove back down and into place correctly, I never had the fueling issue again.
Good luck !
Fuel tanks 2000 and up trucks and cars there is a is a flapper/ball valve at the base of filler tube in tank it is for incase of accident fuel doesnt spray out hole and to sort of help deture ppl from siphoning.
