Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "4.56 or 4.88", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I would only re-gear for a larger outside diameter tire. If youve got a 20" wheel but the outside diameter of the tire is still roughly 31" you will be fine. For speed/torque id make modifications elsewhere ie: shift kit and engine.
I thought the same, MPG goes up. But i see the whole pic about higher RPMS at freeway speeds. It probaly all balances out. Now you use less to get get going, but more at highway speeds and vice versa.

Ok, but Guam does not have any highways and the speed limit is 45 mph so is the 4:56 overkill or should I stay with stock gears.
I am going to run 18x8 rims with 275/60
I wouldnt worry about it. V6 superduper would only be a couple hundred more than regearing and definitely a better mod, especially if your going the street truck route.

Doesn't the S/C run like 3k, new gears for a 2wd would cost like 400 bux, with a locker about 600-800.
I think that 4.56's will work really well for your setup, especially since the speed limit is 45 mph. Joe has some 4.56's with 33's, and he's got the V8. Since you have the V6 I think it'll be perfect.
nope there less than $2000, I think you can pick up one for 1750 and its only a 3 hour job. I would much rather have this than regearing. IMO. I lived in low speed limit islands, its not fun either way you go.
