Default Replacing ATF Filter

Has anyone here replaced their ATF filter, mainly after 50k or 100k miles? Was the screen badly clogged or was it in good conditon? I was wondering because now I just drain the fluid without a filter change since Toyota doesn't recommend a filter change, and I fill it with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.

I dropped the pan in my 2000 v8 tundra, and was told that the screen is never changed. All you do is clean it with brake cleaner .A toyota service manager told me they don't even stock it as a consumable item.Anyway, the screen was in great shape.I also use mobil 1 synthetic tranny, engine and rear end lubricant.

Default in line filter

I wouldn't bother dropping the pan. Put an inline transmission filter on the intake side of the transmission cooler and forget about it for a couple of years. It is a five minute job and cost about $20.00 or so. Do a search about it.

Dropped my pan at 100,000 miles and the filter was clean. Did a fluid flush while I was at it. Was also told that the filter was not available for purchase. Gof figure.

In any event, since it was clean, I don't worry about it.

Default Flushing ATF

Does anyone here know if there is a safe way or if it is even possible to flush the ATF fluid with out going to a Lube center? Is a special machine needed for the flushing or is there another way?

Also where is the best place to go for a flush?

Default Re: Flushing ATF

I have a 2000 each summer I just drain the trans fluid using the drain plug
about 3 qts will drain out & I add new fluid....I dont trust those drain machines....too much chance for contamination....and you never know if
they know what they are doing. Leave the filter alone.
