Question Removing 3rd Catalytic Converter

I'm crushed that I've lost 5 hp for emissions control I am not required to have. '03 Tundra. Has anyone removed the 3 ca. from theiir truck? I'm sure its not hard, but there is probably more to it than I think. Any input?

Do you really care what truck I have or what mods I've done? Probably not, but here they are any way:

Loaded 07 LTD 4x4 DC 5.7. ARE Cap, Yakima Rack, Toytec 3" Lift, ProComp 8166 Wheels, Nitto Terra Grappler 305/55/20's, Bullhide Spray-In Liner, Volant CAI, Black Headlight Mod, Zoomers Cat back exhaust.

Still to Come: Headers? Speaker/Sub upgrades? What else? Supercharger........? I'm sure I'll think of something.

I don't believe that the '03 Tundras have a 3rd catalytic converter like the '00-'02 California Tundra models. While all '03 Tundras are 50 state emissions legal, I think they achieved this in a different manner than just applying the 3rd cat to all Tundras. I looked under an '03 Tundra the other day and it didn't appear to have a 3rd cat after the "Y" pipe. It looked like it had a resonantor similar to my'00 non-CA Tundra. I think they made the '03 Tundras 50 state emissions legal by increasing the length of the 2 front cats and relocating them closer to the exhaust manifolds for faster light off. There may be other factors involved, but this was something that I noticed when I looked under an '03 Tundra. I think this is also why the '00-'02 TRD headers are not spec'd for the '03 Tundras.

There is no 3rd Catalytic converter. It's a common misconception.

There are only 2 Cats. The "3-way Catalytic Converters" refer to the neutralization of 3 types of harmful emissons. Hydrocarbons(HC), NOx(Nitrous Oxides) and Carbon Monoxide(CO). The 2 Catalytic Converters convert these gases into Water(H2O), Nitrogen(N) and Carbon Dioxide(CO2).

according to the 2003 Service Manual, only 2 Catalytic Converters.
both the V6 and V8 engines only have 2 cats.

i scanned a page from it. you must be mistaking the resonator for a third catalytic converter.

Yes, the 2000-2002 CA model Tundras are different than the 2003 models. The 2000-2002 CA Tundras have a third catalytic converter downstream of the "Y" pipe, while the 2000-2002 non-CA model Tundras and all 2003 models get a resonator after the "Y" pipe.
