Question Timing Belt replacement cost

I was just curious, has anyone had their timing belt replaced yet and if so what did it cost.

Thanks, Ken

Ken,
It's about a $50 part, but a 2.5 - 4.0 labor charge.

Thanks Glenn,

I was looking through the factory service manual and "thought" just maybe I would tackle it when it came time but after walking through the pages I think I'll let someone more ambitious than I take the sweat and responsibility.

Have replaced T-belt on tundra before, not that bad. Alot of pieces to take off and put back on. Its like a big puzzle. Labor time is about 6.0hrs. for install. Cam seals are a little funny looking too. Not sure of replacement price at dealer, but will cost more to replace seals and water pump with belt too.

My dealer wants to charge me $389.95. I wonder what the 95 cents is for?

It's in there in the "Maintenance" section.

Related post in "V8 water pump leak?"
Bought the OEM parts so I knew what I was getting, was willing to pay a little more since I drive almost 800 miles a week. Prices shown are list. Here is a list of parts I had replaced at 94.5K
Water Pump 16100-59275 $112.59
Tensioner Assy, Tmng 13540-50030 45.78
Tensioner Assy, Serp 16620-0W036 65.74
Cam Seals 90311-38065 11.80
Crank Seal 90311-43006 7.32
Radiator Hose 16572-0F010 20.65
Radiator Hose 16571-0F010 13.41
Timing Belt 13568-59095 48.07
Serpentine Belt 90080-91173 21.92
Thermostat 90916-03100 12.83
Thermo Gasket 16346-50010 3.46
Heater Hoses on Back-Order (3ea) 79.00

The only problem I was experiencing was a squeal from the serpentine tensioner adjuster. After replacing and inspecting everything; the serpentine belt was showing some slight wear (glazing & micro-cracks). All other parts showed minimal wear patterns and were in excellent shape; could easily have gone another 30-50k.

Isn't a good idea to also replace the water pump when you replace the timing belt since they are in the same area?

Something as important as a timing belt, I think I will just let the dealer take care of that.

Default Replace Crankshaft Seal and Waterpump too?

Does anyone here recommend replacing the Crankshaft seal and Waterpump when having a timing belt changed the first time(90,000miles)? I'm guessing the Waterpump probably wouldn't last another 90,000 miles, but I could be wrong especially with Toyota's long life coolant.

My water pump lasted about 30,000 miles.

Tundra2UZ:
See post below for PNs and list prices.
At 94K I replaced Cam Seals, Crank Seals, Both Belt Tensioners, belts as well as hoses. Belts were slightly glazed, tensioners needed replacement, interior of hoses showed still good condition. Water pump & Thermostat: no problem but, who knows ....with the amount of miles and places I drive not worth the risk.
Checked valve adjustments, none required.
Replaced Brake Fluid (1st time), Transmission Flush (2nd time) and replaced rotors @~97K.
Figured may as well do it right once and not have to worry or go back for another 90+K. My 0.02.

time to resurrect an old thread.

my serpentine tensioner assembly doesnt seem to have any problems at the moment. do the tensioner assemblies really need changing, same question with the hoses?

i'm planning the water pump, timing belt, and any seals/gaskets that must be removed/reinstalled, if i dont need to replace tensioner assemblies and hoses at 90k miles/4 years, then i'll wait til 180k and do the full deal. what's the consensus on life of the tensioners? ive never had a problem with my serpentine tensioner, and it's still at the proper setting.

Mine started making slight noise at ~91K, changed evrything at 93.5K.
Don't try to save a dime and let it cost you big potential $$$s and a lot of frustration in the future. Small insurance to change the tensioner AND hoses while there anyway. I also cahnged the cam seals and the crank seal while tore down this much
Also recommend complete flush of the radiator, transmission, brake fluid AND drain/refill differential if not already done.
Take care of your Tundra and it'll take care of you....

dont be shocked by a difference in quote vs actual, if they quote high ask what the labor estimate is for the entire job, not the computer's addition of the labor estimates. the original computer estimate was 600 bucks labor for timing belt and water pump (and coolant flush which will happen as well during the course of the service).

i talked to my service writer (isaiah blackburn, voss toyota...real good guy) a little while ago, he said the estimate on the sheet was what the computer spit out, whereas the actual labor estimate was around 320 ie 4 hours or so for timing belt and water pump. since im having a few more things done (ie everything on the list, like thermostat, hoses, tensioners, etc), it'll probably be more like 450ish, maybe 5 bills, which is back in the range others mentioned for the total amount including parts, but the other comments didnt include a couple seals that id prefer to replace now rather than worry about between now and 180k, otherwise i'd be total around 650-700 for the whole thing, i think i'll be around 800 grand total parts and labor for both tensioners, all seals, water pump, timing belt, main coolant hoses, thermostat. i saved a bill getting all the parts through carson, and i'll post the final labor cost plus the part numbers for the o-ring seals when i get the truck back, probably tomorrow since i didnt know i needed the o-rings and they had to get them from the lexus dealership.

from a cursory glance, the serp tensioner, thermostat and hoses are diy but i didnt feel like messing with them nor figuring out what to do with the old coolant.
