Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Question on Performance Products exhaust...", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Does anyone have the performance products exhaust on their v8 Tundra? If so how does it sound, does it improve power (hp/torque), and what are your opinions? It's either this exhaust or i'm gonna get a custom mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust with a magnaflow muffler. What do you guys think?
Wasn't it V8Toilet who got a 8 hp gain @ 3400 rpm and 4 hp gain at peak using a Spintech muffler with a 2-1/2" single pipe. That a very good gain for just a muffler change.
I installed the flowmaster 50 series catback dual exhaust on my 2000 v8 tundra. I sounds great and i have not experienced any performance loss.If anything i've gained mid to high range power.I went with the after the rear wheel tailpipes. The system shipped to my front door was $317.00 with tax and shipping.I think it's well worth the money.....It's not stainless steel but made from aluminized material.
Thanks for the information. I am leaning towards a custom cat back exhaust. If will be made from 2.25" t-304 stainless steel all mandrel bent, with a magnaflow muffler (2 in/1 out), with a polished tip at the stock location. All this for $375.00 all said and done. What do you think?
How is your system going to be run? I had a custom kit made for mine where we cut the pipes behind the cats installed 2 1/4" duals into a single flowmaster with a single 3" outlet. I think it was a little to much for a stock engine and I lost a little on the low end, but it sounded great. If you're going to mod the engine that is the way to do it...
I would personally go with the stock 2.25 single inlet with dual 2.25 outlets, with the dual tailpipe set up.I know you will experience probalems if you go with a bigger size dia pipe.Like i said before it only cost $317.00 shipped to my front door from summit. I think the p/n is #12284 behind the rear wheel outlet or #12283 for the straight pipe going to the rear bumper.
I think you are right about using the single 2 1/4" pipe especially if you do not have any engine performance mods for your truck. If you go to big you will lose some of the low end grunt. The flowmaster system you have seems like an excellent kit. The problem I have with just bolting a cat-back kit on is that the passanger side OEM exhuast is pretty kinked up where they Y-together. I would get this problem taken care of as well, maybe an aftermakert Y-pipe or something custom made. Again th\is is just my $.02 from my experinces...

I reused the stock 2.25" piping and just installed a Spintech muffler. I tried 2.5" piping and lost a little down low!
I don't think mandrel bent piping is going to make a significant difference on a truck motor.
Here is the graph.
