Default Limited Differential Idendification ??

I need help on this one guy's !! How can you determine if you have a factory installed limited slip differential ?? Or for that matter ,a limited slip differential installed allready ?? Is there any identifying numbers in the VIN # or on the axle itself to look for ??

Thanks Guy's ;

Default Look on Rear end

Ziggy454,

I looked and there is a sticker located on my rear end that says "LSD oil only", and I ordered it with the LSD. I haven't noticed any other identifier. But I would be interested to know also.

pretty sure vin does not indicate lsd. lsd oil only sticker present on my differential as well. i didn't order the truck, but picked one off the lot that had the lsd option (2002).

if i remember, i'll get under truck and check again.

Mine says it also.

A white sticker about 1" X 3" that says "LSD"

looked at lsd tonight and couldn't find any identifier other than the lsd oil only sticker. i have posted a pic of my 2wd 2002 LSD so you can compare against yours (you can see sticker right above fill plug).

Default LSD

If you jack up the rear axle with the wheels off the ground, when you spin 1 wheel in the forward direction the other should also spin forward, meaning you have a LSD diff.
If the other wheel spins in the opposite direction then you have a OPEN diff. or--> Try to spin the wheels in the opposite direction. If the do not spin seperatly then you have LSD, if they spin independantly of each other then you have a open diff.
The toyota LSD is clearly marked with a small red/white tag that says "LSD" right on the back of the diff. There are no other identifying marks except the little sticker. The VIN does NOT tell you if there is LSD, so you have to look for the tag or manually check.
Hope this helps.
