Thumbs down No to TRD

If you value you truck...do NOT get the TRD headers. I had the TRD V6 headers on my 2001 Tacoma. My Tacoma had the same 3.4L engine as you Tundra, so I'm sure the TRD headers for your truck would be the same configuration. Bottom line is the flange/gasket setup on the TRD headers is terrible. I had the TRD headers on my tacoma for 6 months prior to getting rid of it, and my truck went into the shop every 3-4 weeks with exhaust leaks. Another problem is that you have to cut your exhaust system to install the TRD setup, so there's no going back to stock if there's problems. If I had gotten the JBA headers instead, I'd probably still be driving a supercharged Tacoma. ( A supercharger only made the TRD headers leak worse)

The things I like about the JBA V6 headers are the fact they are bolt on and the flanges are self aligning/sealing. They also have 1 less flange than the TRD. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who have had zero problems with the TRD headers. But if you are a worst case scenario like I was, you'll end up dumping your truck. You can PM me if you would like more details. Zebra1550

Wow Zebra - that's the first I've heard about TRD headers leaking so bad! It seams they would have given you a new set with that many problems!

I haven't heard from anyone who actually installed the JBA headers yet... anyone?

I would also like to hear any comments on the JBA headers. I like hearing the will just bolt up to stock exhaust, but wonder what kind of performance I could expect.

Where are you guy's finding your JBA v-6 headers? JBA's web site doesn't list a header for the Tundra v-6.

Hey guys,

You can find them here

The V6 Tundra uses the same header as the Tacoma. JB

Will these still bolt right up to the exhaust without any cutting/welding?

I checked w/Performance Combos, that did our JBA headers group buy, about the fit for the V6 headers and they said that JBA told them that they would fit. Either call JBA's 800 # or you can call Justin @ PC- #800.875.2112 to confirm. JB

Look out guys, I just called JBA themselves and the guy in tech support told me that they do not have any headers for the Tundra V6. I asked him about the set for the Tacoma and he flat out said no. You would think that if they were out to make some money that they would beat around the bush about the Tacoma and Tundra engines but this guy came flat out with a NO. If you still want to chance it, let the rest of us here know how it worked out. If there is no mods required to run the Tacoma headers then I myself will be look ig to purchase a set of headers.( but from a different manufacturer). Keep us posted.

Thanks for the info island tundra, was just about to make that call myself. Guess at this point our only header option would be TRD. Read on here that they recquire cutting of stock exhaust, wonder if that was just for the Tacoma they were installed on or if that is the case for these Tundras also. Anyone know right off hand?

I think the JBA's would fit. Both use the same engine so it will bolt to the engine. The only problem I see is the connection from the headers to the cat.

The Tacoma and the Tundra V6's do have the exact same engine, but thats not where the problem was. Form what I had gathered form most of the header manufacturers is that the problem with the V-6 Tundras was with the steering shaft and some wiring. I guess that the steering shaft was in the way of the headers and you would have to either cut the header to workaround the shaft or reroute the shoaft somehow( which looks totaly impossible).

So first you had to spend money to buy the headers of your choice. then you would have to take those brand new headers to a shop to have them rework the location of certain down pipes.

I don't know how the TRD Tacom headers differ from the TRD Tundra headers as I have never seem them up close. Has anyone done a comparison between the two? I have been researching this info since I bought the truck in 2000 but have not been able to find a good response. Us V6ers are pretty much lleft in the cold when it comes to that subject. I had my eyes set on a set of Downey headers since they were cheap but did not want to buy them, tear out the stock units, and then find out that the truck wiould be down longer cause the headers would't fit right. Anyone have a solution to this?

There are Tundra V6 headers listed here perhaps someone there can elaborate on these questions. At least this has been the only place I've seen these shown for the V6 Tundra instead of the Tacoma V6. Haven't tried asking myself yet, just not ready for them at this point. Was kind of hoping that there would be more options when the time came.
