Question Engine/oil treatment

I have been looking into engine and oil treatments. I was looking for something that I could use every oil change in replace of the 6th qt of oil.

Through asking diffrent people about the topic I have been told to use Lucas oil treatment, which I already use their injector cleaner.
However a good friend told me that he has never seen lucas oil work and suggested Rislone engine/ oil treatment.

After searching I have found opions on the topic vary far and wide and was hoping that I could get a more solid answer on here as I have gotten a lot of info on here in the past.

Thanks

EDIT: More so I have read many pages in both mags and web that says not to use any oil treatment but rather use straight oil of whatever kind you like.

What are you trying to do with the treatment? Suggest you look at Auto-Rx Cleans Internal Engine Transmission Motorcycle Power Steering Differential Diesels, Stop Leaky Seals, Oil Burning, Increase MPG.

Try this stuff: Amsoil Engine Flush. When used as directed, it cleans and restores operating efficiency to valves, valve lifters, rocker arms, and pistons for improved horsepower, fuel economy, and performance. Use before changing oil. One can of this per 5 quarts of oil. That's basically what you asked for, the 6th qt to be a cleaner?

I was mainly looking for something to clean the engine. However I have learn that if you buy a high performance oil it already have a advance blend of treatments in it and that adding additives to it every oil change can actually hurt the engine more the help.

After much research I have desided that additives should only be used once in a blue moon when reaching high miles or buying a used car that you dont know the history of.

I think you're making the right choice. Your truck is not really that old.

The Asian vehicle makers advise against using fuel, oil or coolant additives.

Specialty oil and additive companies are sponsors of many automotive forums, however, so forum admistrators and moderators tend to have a nuetral or favorable view of specialty oils and additives.

As you said, the engine oils of today are loaded with detergents and cleaners that that is all you should need. Everything else is waste of money. If you change your oil and filter regularly you should never need anything else, not even an engine flush.

I was instructed every 3K miles to add a Qt of Rislone to my Fathers engines which were mostly Dodge 318's back in the 60's and he would always get 300K miles on an engine! Of course i was the Mechanic that did his oil changes at his full service ESSO station and as far as i can tell it probably had little to do with engine life due to ESSO Uniflo oil. It was a premium Dino oil and like i said it was changed every 3K miles. Just go with a quality Synthetic and do it every 5K miles or a dino and do it every 3K miles? I am also a believer that quality oil needs nothing to degrade the oil!
