Default 2 mufflers

I have 2 sets of 2.5" pipes from the cats to the muffler then a have a single 3" exit. What I am thinking of doing is throwing on another muffler.

Any of you tundra people have this done, if so, where have you placed the second muffler?

Can any of you with this setup post some pictures of your exaust system?

Thanks,

Eric

hovisimo,

i would appreciate it.

By the way, do you (or any body for that matter) have any opinions of what size pipes are best for usage from that cats back, all we had in the shop was 2.5" pipes thats why I used them.

thanks
Eric

I have a custom exhaust setup. The shop replaced the Y pipe and everthing on back. I can e-mail you some photos if you like. The Y is the same diameter as the tubing in front of it and it collects into a 3" tube which runs back to the muffler. They also increased the diameter of the inlet and outlet of the 3rd cat (before the muffler on CA models). The muffler is a Flowmaster 70 series and from there back is 2.5" tubing to the exit at the stock location with a nice chrome tip on it.

It isn't overly loud and I think it sounds great. It certainly feels more responsive on the throttle now than before and I think that is due in large part to the new Y pipe. That stock Y is very restrictive.

I have a custom job done too. It is a 2.25in tube enlarged to 3in into a 3in Flowtech warlock muffler. It exits out in front of the rear wheel. The muffler also has a built in cutout and when it is opened up it sounds really freakin bad ***!!

I saw Tundra_Jules photos and I hope he can post them again because it got me started on putting true duals on my Tundra. Having worked in the old days of tuned exhausts & seeing the way the Y pipe is constructed on the Tundra, it's pretty plain that this system is way to restrictive even for a computerized engine. Just a thought for the owners that are having MANIFOLD problems. The restriction in the Y pipe could be the culprit, by heating up the manifolds to fast and to hot!! IMHO. Especially in the colder climates. I am going to run some temp tests, cfm flow, backpsi & balance when I start on the project. I am laid up right now but hopfully next week I can get a ss set of magnaflows w/ balance tube, straight out the back, mandrel bent & do a before & after test. Going to increase flow with just a AMSOIL air filter. Some old flow #'s I have for 283 cubic engines look better than what I have now from the Tundra... I will let you know what I come up with... If you have not seen Tundra_Jules photos of the Y pipe check them out, you won't believe Toyota could make a mess like that..

Don't count out that stock "y" pipe. A lot of the duals are not making as much low and mid range torque as the stock setup. I like the sound of my true duals but miss the lost torque. I'd like to see a before and after Dyno test with the custom "y" pipe vs stock.

You might want to talk to a few people who are actually building systems and/or using Tundras on the streets and trails before you go too far with rebuilding the exhaust system. That's what I did, and everyone agreed 2 1/2 inch duals were actually TOO big for anything but all-out racing.

The reasoning goes something like this: 2 1/2 inch tailpipes breath well at red-line, but do not provide ENOUGH backpressure down where we drive 99% of the time.

Yep, contrary to our every instinct, some backpressure is NECESSARY for torque and power production. Big duals just don't cut it.

I talked with every Flowmaster installer in the area, and without exception they disagreed with the "technical" advice offered by Flowmaster. Eventually, even I figured it out, and had smaller pipes put on. Yeah, I got the big, wide tips, but from the cat back they're 2" pipes.

Sweet sound, lottsa torque down where I need it for dustin' F-150s.

With what I have now (2.5"s from the cats to a single Muffler) I remember noticing greater High end power, but with in a day I also put on a K&N FIPK Gen II.

Larry L., With this in mind do you think that 2"s would still better accomodate then 2.5"s?

I can do with what I have done already, but I always want Just a little more. Trying to squeeze everybit out of my truck
