This is a discussion thread titled "SSAutochrome Headers Installed - Great!!", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
The Y-pipe is made from mild steel and then chrome plated, at least the one they sent me, and it is missing the 02 sensor bung that goes in the Y-pipe.

Best regards,Kent
I don't think there is supposed to be an O2 in the "Y" pipe. I know there are 2 in the headers (1 each) and 1 behind each cat. All that is BEFORE the "Y".
So.... where would one go?

The 2003 model has the post-cat O2 sensor on the pass. side in the Y-pipe. Sure enough, you'll need to cut out the original O2 flange (it's not just a bung) and weld it into the new Y-pipe.

I used the ones that came from Autochrome although if I had to do it over, I'd spend the 30 bucks for the oem stuff from the dealer.

I installed my headers a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I have some friends here in Atlanta that allows me to use the shop to work on my vehicles which that made my installation go smoothely.
I used the OEM gaskets after comparing them to the ones shipped with the headers and the OEM studs and bolts but I added the lock washer that came in the kit. I used the SS gasket where the headers bolt up to the OEM cat pipe. Additionally I had to notch the driver side header flange to clear the A/C bracket (the shop tools really came in handy). The O2 sensor bung has been moved so I had no problems installing the sensors. The entire job took about 5 hours and a couple of banged up knuckles. Thanks to your installation tips.
I had already replaced the stock muffler with a glass pipe and split duals and I have a 2 to 3 inch hole cut in the front of the intake air box. We drove it down to Fla. over the weekend and I must say it Sweeeet!!!
I must say being a member has it privelages and you guys have been a big help. Desinging and maintaining computer networks for a living makes playing around and maintaining my vehicles therapy.
Well... being only 17 years old, I am on a limited budget... but $175.00 for headers and a Y-pipe just sounds like too good of a deal to pass up!
My finger is twitching over "Place Bid" button right now...
So everybody likes 'em right?! Yes?!

Well, it's a mixed bag. You're going to lose some low end grunt, but they do open things up above 3,000 rpm. They look good, too. Plan on a 6 hour install...longer if you're not experienced. I found it easiest to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the engine. The Y-pipe will require welding, I believe. For those with the '03 and up models, it will also require moving the O2 flange from the old pipe to the new one.
I personally wouldn't do it again, even for the low cost.

"We likes them, we likes them a lot!" Spoke like Goloum...
Anyway... I like them, cost is right, The NEW headers have the O2 bung in the right position and they fit very nice. I have a S/C V8, so I saw an increase across the board.
IMO.... I would do it.

Well I finally got rid of my '02 Access Cab and got a Double Cab
This week is going to include some moding...
SSAutochrome headers
Air Lift Suspension
Clifford Autostart
Just wanted to thank you guys for getting the Bung situation fixed...

Well....this is a first! I've never read that anyone would LOSE any low end torque by adding headers. Possibly going to dual if done wrong....but headers losing torque over OEM log manifold?? Makes no sence. I understand possibly 1 1/2 primaries, or long tube giving more.
Also, anyone that installed on an 03, did you have to change out the type of 02 sensors or are there seperate headers for the 03's?

I have them installed on my 03 and did not have to change the type of 02 sensors.

Very happy, they work quite well with my Bassani Dual rear entry setup. Funny thing happened after installing the headers, drone @ ~2k RPM went away. Cleans up the shift points, less la
