Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Who makes aftermarket heads & cams for 4.7?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
LX 470. OK all you Toy techs, tell me if in fact the heads, throttlebody, and ECU for that matter would be compatable and or interchangeable with the tundra 4.7.
what is the rated power for the lx470?
How much of that power will I be able to actually transfer to my truck theoretically?
I'm not kidding, lets play. I'm game.
Ron

I dont think that would be too cost effective IMO. Best bang for the buck I've heard is Vortech V-trim with an aftercooler. The only way I'd be changing out heads is, if 2 turbos were feeding them.
*edit: Ive also heard that High HP tundras tend to lose compression easily and is considered a "problem"

I don't think the TRD supercharger can be beat for the money. It's for sale for as low as $3550 right now. Here is what a supercharged Tundra can do with a few other modifications like a UniChip piggy back computer.
Here is what a supercharged Tundra can do at the track.
It's 8.5 megs!

Lexus technician here, the LX470 uses the same 2UZFE found in Tundras. Last time I looked it has a slightly lower HP rating vs. the Tundra, probably due to a different exhaust system. Intake manifold and throttle body is the same,ECU slightly differs due to traction control and security system.
The Lexus heads others have mentioned are from the all-aluminum 4.0 and 4.3 liter V8s with variable valve timing.

Ok what about the 3.4 V6 can we use the heads and cams off a 2004 Solara V6 3.3 VVT-i or go with the 2002 Camery V6 3.0 VT-i.
And how would the ecu controll the VVT-i engagement are there any V-tech controllers that are compatible with VVT-i.

I never looked very closely at a truck V6,but I have a feeling they're totally different designs compared to the 3.0/3.3 V6 engines.
VVT-i systems are different than most VTEC systems. VVT-i uses adjustable camshaft timing while VTEC uses a secondary set of hydraulically engaged cam profiles. With VTEC it's a basic on/off control of the hydraulic solenoid,so piggyback control is quite easy to do. VVTi is more complicated since you're controlling the timing of the cams.
The aftermarket doesn't offer controllers for i-VTEC engines since they use cam profiles and cam timing, similar to Toyota's VVTL-i system. If such i-VTEC/VVTL-i controller does come to existence,I can picture someone damaging an engine by going too extreme with cam timing and causing the valves to tap the pistons.
the air power system is only sold for export in a minimum quantity of 20 units. for 2400 dollars. so have at it. I already spoke to them for nitrousfed about 3 months ago. so i think nitrousfed's shop should have them soon. I do believe there will be a small mark up the dealer cost was 2400 but he had to buy 20 of them.
They all include the unichip.do expect to pay close to 4000 + though.keepin mind also that land cruisers have a much stonger tranny in australia.
S/C yes Unichip maybe.
Ok insted of swaping the heads what about swaping the ECU from a 00 or 02 Tundra and put in my 03 Tundra. I know the people have been saying that the ECU on 03's are not adjuting to there mods. What do you guys think about this.
