Angry Not Shifting right

Ok looking to see if I can get some help because I don’t know what to do or have no clue what it could be. The last couple of days there have been 3 times or so that my truck has not wanted to shift from second to third at all and it’s getting on my nerves and it goes up to red line and I don’t want to mess my transmission up any more than it already is now. But for a while now my truck as been shifting hard from first to second where it is like a delayed shift. But I have never had a problem with second to third and so on. So any help or ideas of what it could be would be very helpful it’s a 2000 tundra with 126xxx miles on it.
Thank you
Dan

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the 2000 tranny is known to be weak. I am guessing you dont tow much to be having your first issue at 126xxx miles. Chances are, it is now shot and needs to be rebuilt/replaced. Try parking it and dropping the pan and checking for metal shavings and/or chunks. Then go from there. I would keep from driving it as much as possible though to keep the damage to a minimum.

The earlier 4 speed autos were unfortunately known for bad OD planetary gear sets, which end up contaminating the rest of the trans internals as a result of failing. Once you have the symptoms, it's too late and the only option is a rebuild. For now you can drop the pan and see how much metal you have in there, but it's not going to be long until your trans completely fails. The torque converter will need replacing as well if you get it rebuilt.
