Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "** Real Story on TRD S/C!! **", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
As said below, superchargers are driven of the engine directly, while turbos run off the exhaust. The biggest benefit of the supercharger is there is no lag. Press the gas pedal and the boost is there immediately....in a turbo motor there is a delay (turbo lag) before the magic happens. Some engine builders get around this by using 2 turbos, one "large volume" one that spools up quickly, and a second one that kicks in when the pressure gets higher. Another thing with turbos is heat. It's not uncommon for the exhaust side of a turbo to be almost red-hot. This heat soaks into the compressor side, plus it makes the oil to the bearings very, very hot. Turbos spin at well over 50000 RPM
Turbos also need more plumbing under the hood than blowers.
The thing to remember is that all turbos or blowers do is increase the pressure (and so volume) of air in the intake, enabling the motor to burn more fuel, thus making more power.
Originally posted by Steve G I know, I know..............but since I'm so close to TRD and am a top dealer, they finally gave us some good news on the TRD V8 Supercharger........this is the REAL STORY from TRD...........
Release date is set as MAY 27th.......will this change?? I give it 2 weeks after that date just to make sure...again , they called and told me this since we have so many S/C's on order, thanks to the T.S. members.......no official pricing yet, I can only estimate a retail price of $3900.00, of course TS members will be getting a very special deal on the Superchargers.
For anyone who is not on the list, all you have to do is email me at gonzo4u@earthlink.net , you will be the first notified and have the oppurtunity to purchase one of the first, no obligation is required on your part...you know how we do things here.
Back to the top......I have seen many members now post that same article...I think I will insert it into this article so we can hopefully alleviate any duplicte threads.
Well first they are both compressors of sorts that cram more air into the cylinders.
The turbo is progressive and spins a fan at a very high rate of speed when the need is senced by the exhaust output, lie when you put your foot down. The turbo will not really kick in untill higher RPM.
A supercharger (read blower) is on all the time and is run by engine belts and adds more air all of the time and unlike turbos, there is very little lag in throttle response and power kickin.

Anyone know how fast a supercharged Tundra will be? I read the articles on pickuptrucks.com but they gave no information. I wonder if it can beat Ford's F-150 Lightning.

As far as I know, the TRD package for the supercharger does not come with updates (chip, re-programming, etc) for the on-board engine computer. The normally aspirated (no blower) V8 Tundra tops out at 106 MPH (or something close to that), because the computer limits the speed...the regular V8 seems to be able to pull past that. So, the top speed will be the same, but the acceleration should improve a bit.
18 DAYS ?
anybody with specific details.
How long for the install,etc.
How many people waiting inline...etc.
I remember when this was a topic a year ago and
people were very enthused about the product.
