Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "exhaust systems", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have been looking around for a dual exhaust system as well. I've heard the TRD and Borla systems both on Tundra's, and the Flowmaster 50 on a El Camino. I liked the sound of the Flowmaster the best, so I'm leaning this way. Haven't price it yet. The TRD from my dealer is $900 plus installation.

I just installed the 50 series Delta Flowmaster on my 2000 V8 Tundra. The system was a custom install from a local muffler tech. The Flowmaster is a single to dual at 2 1/2" pipe in/out. The installation when without any problems cutting the old muffler out and replacing the new flow with dual pipes straight out the back. Of course the package would not be complete without the chrome tips (3 1/2"). The sound of the existing stock system was a caged cat moaning to get out. The new muffler system allowed that cat to voice his opinion. The additional sound level as heard from the cab is definitely noticeable but not overly powering. The radio is still the gating factor over the rumble but definitely nice to hear that there is a power plant under the hood. The strongest acoustics is under load, climbing hills or pulling a load like my boat (cool). Under normal load of 65 – 75mph the sound is a monotone rumble. As for performance enhancements, 5, 10hp, or whatever the manufacture says is still out with the jury. My gas performance may have even gotten worse, or it maybe that the gas paddle has gained some weight. Conclusion, my wife hates the new sound and she would rather drive her car to functions then my truck, excellent.
I installed a custom true dual with H crossover from a custom header shop called Stans Headers in Auburn Wa. I see you are from Everett....this shop has now done 5 or 6 Tundras and does great work. See my pics. I went with Flowmaster 70s and love them. Very little noise inside cab, but an undeniable V8 sound when you punch it. Gained just under 1 mpg, and feel power increase from 3000 RPM up. I detect no low end loss as some post, I stuck with 2 1/4 pipe and that will help low end, plus he will get rid of the stock Y pipe and make a custom H crossover and weld a new sensor onto H crossover. $650.00 out the door. The Owner of Burien Toyota and Doxon Toyota both have had their trucks done by Stan...
dunno about the power, but the sound and the quality of the magnaflow are both very good...have seen & heard on two tundras now. the stainless looks extremely nice, and the tips are high quality as well.
