I just took my truck into Longo for service(i have 35950 on the od) and had been noticing a ticking noise when i start the car up and start driving, it did this hot or cold. So I told the service guy about this noise and they kept the car overnight for whatever reason. I found this thread today so I called them back to check up and they say its the belt tensioner and I mentioned to them other people with this same noise which was caused by a cracked manifold and he told me the manifolds were fine, I hope they're right and didnt just stick some glue in my manifolds to hold off the ticking till I pass 36k and the warrenty runs out. This could be interesting.
Niether one for me either, but now that I voted that way I just jinxed myself I'm sure! Good reason to get headers when that happens anyhow.

I need some advice here...Like i stated in my previous post, it sounds like I have a cracked exhaust manifold, Longo toyoto said the noise was a seized belt tensioner so they fixed that, well a few days later the ticking is back. Im pissed now because I told them about the manifolds and they said everything was fine.
So now my warrenty has expired, what should i do now? I also heard from a mechanic that there is TSB for the manifolds on the Land Cruisers for the same problem we are having with the Tundras. If im not mistaken arent the 2 motors one and the same? So what gives with no TSB for our trucks?

There is no TSB for Land Cruisers either that I can find. Ask your mechanic for the TSB #

I think that problem ended after the 2003 model run.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
I have the tick on the passenger's side of my 06. I brought it to the attention of the shop foreman, who kept the vehicle for a while to examine it. He used some sort of smoke injection device to try and locate a crack. He claimed there were no cracks, but instead theorized the noise was "header flutter".
Sometimes with thin walled exhaust manifolds, such as with aftermarket headers, the walls of the primary tubes are quite thin compared to traditional cast manifolds. This thinness actually allows noise from flowing exhaust to pass through the walls of the manifold, even though the exhaust itself does not leak. I have seen this before over the years....my last experience was a set of Hooker SuperComp headers which fluttered just the right amount to sound like a header gasket leak, even though there was no leak.
The Toyota exhaust manifolds are not the traditional thick cast variety, but rather more closely resemble thin walled aftermarket headers. The foreman showed me TSBs for V6 Tacomas which had the same problem. Toyota redesigned the manifold to a thicker variant to address the complaints, but there does not appear to be the same solution for the V8.
Maybe later on I will provide my own solution....JBA headers.

Unless JBA has increased their tubings wall thickness lately you'll hear the exhaust flowing through them also. I know I heard it more on my former 2000 4.7 after I installed the titanium coated JBA's.

Point taken, thin walls exchanged for thin walls. We had several members solve the problem by switching....yours is one that did not, and I shall keep your comment in mind.
