Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Fyi : Power Steering Pump", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Just wanted to let everybody know that Toyota is replacing my P/S pump under warranty. Problem is that when I'm turning to the right or left very slowly (such as going around a corner) I get a rubbing-grinding-whining type noise. Had to order the part so it won't be installed till next week. Hope it fixes the problem but if not it's a freebie. Tech said he knows of no TSB on the pumps just in case any of you are having the same symptoms.
Well just got it back and it DIDN"T fix the problem which I'm not surprised at. It still sounds like a bearing noise (remember I said the problem was a grinding or rubbing noise when turning real slow). They changed the wording on the invoice I got today saying I had a noise when turning---CAUSE-seal leaking. How's that for making sure they get their money back from Toyota. By the way I did get a new P/S pump out of the deal. Will have to make another appointment.
I used to work for a Cummins diesel dealership. There was very very little trouble shooting which actually took place. There was 1 mechanic assigned to do the troubleshooting and then it would be sent to a bay with a ticket to repair what ever. The trouble shooting went something like, "Sounds like it's the cam".
So, we replace the cam and if that didnt fix it, they'd bill Cummins for the cam job and send the truck out anyway.
The craziest crap I ever heard around there was things the service rep would tell the customers. He tell them anything just to give them an answer.
