Thumbs up A/C as Intercooler for Supercharger

Kudos to Ford for the innovation of SuperCooling the Lightning and coaxing 550 Hp out of that what 5.4l???

Aparently the air conditioner is used for intercooling (50hp) extra over the standard intercooler.

Are there any supercharged Tundra's looking for more ponies??

YEA... I am looking for ponies...

Lets get some good advise!

I have one with the S/C 4.7L and looking to really extract what I KNOW is in there out on the pavement!

An intercooler would definately help the TRD S/C. If I remember correctly, Mike (nitrousfed) was gunna make one, but I'm not sure if he did. If you did intercool, the next step (for another 50 hp) would be the NX Ntercooler. After that, theres the Unichip.

The airconditioner in the lightning is cooling the intake air for bursts of up to 45 seconds. TRD should be workin on one while we speak. It's nice to see Dodge nuzzling in on the Lightning for top spot with the Viper V10 engine, giving the ford reason to work on advancing the Lightning.

Can't an intercooler be fashioned from any other supercharged engines?? I guess the warranty would be toast. But very simply the best shot at improving the Supercharged Tundra lies in an intercooler of some sort. An airconditioner sounds ghetto but if 50hp is available to those who upgrade to A/C from the intercooler then mabe a lightning intercooler might be available to cross over to a s/cTundra. Nitrousfed might be the guy to talk to.

The TRD roots supercharger was designed for low cost and ease of installation, not ultimate performance. That's why they never put an intercooler or thought of upgrading it to intercooled. It would be harder to retrofit a heat exchanger to the roots blower, than in a centrifugal compressor like Vortech, Procharger, etc. Easier making a centrifugal kit with a cooler.
Also there's a patent on Ford's AC/intercooler, and i doubt Ford would want to sell its advantage to anyone else.

I read about the lightoning setup as well ,and obviously hte colder air would help.

This maybe a stupid suggestion, but couldn't you plumb up/ rob airflow from your vents and re-route it through the intake. Actually use the a/c as a cold air source. I realize this in no way compares to the lightning set-up, but just wondering.

Not sure how much hp hte a/c unit sucks up, but just wondering.

On a side note the early reviews of the dodge super truck versus the lightning run similar 0-60 from what I've seen.

If Toyota has any sence about it... they would offer a Tundra in the same vein as the Dodge and Ford offerings.

Tundra, S/C WITH PERFORMANCE ECU not a piggy back P.O.S. and a FUEL SYSTEM that can FEED THE BEAST not a bandaid 9th injector crap, LSD rear, Traction bars, TRANNY with enough BEEF to handle the output, 18" wheels fat enough to bite, and a suspension tuned to the weight of the truck not tuned to a buick.

Of course, on the inside, a COMPLETE array of gauges, A/F, Tranny temp, RPM, VOLTS, BOOST, Fuel Pressure... others added as needed.

In order to go all out.. have optional paddle shift, or whatever it is called.. where you shift manually with the wheel paddles.. and put a damn FLOOR shifter in there... make it LOOK sporty...

But.. I am dreaming.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Mabe with the next generation Tundra, TRD might get ito it. Toyota wouldn't have to make very many. Just show that they can. If people want them, and will pay for them, TRD should be able to produce them. God knows they charge a fortune for anything with a TRD logo.

Amen to that brother!

Ford asks.... I guess.. around 45K for the Lightning?
Dodge.. who knows?

If Toyota wanted.... they could sell them for 40-45K

TRD point... I purchased the 18x9" BBS rims WITH Michelin 275 55 R18 Cross Country radials Mounted, balanced for $1,600.00

TRD bought the rights the the BBS wheel that is now sold with a TRD center cap and is NOW $2,400.00 JUST because of the center cap. Proof... http://www.trdusa.com/SearchDatabaseResults.asp

And look for part # 00602-42800-425 and LOOK at the center cap, then look at my photos and look at my wheels!

What a crock.. BUT people are willing to pay it... I am getting a set of 4 center caps off E-Bay and well you get the idea!

Hopefully soon we won't have to deal with TRD for superchargers. Apparently, Vortech has been working on a Tundra supercharger. I can't give any details, as I have none. Supposedly its been very secretive, but has been seen. A tuning shop down in Florida was told of it (they own a Turbo Tundra with Mike's older kit).

Are the Vortech Superchargers for the other vehicles priced as high or higher than the TRD??

It all depends on the application. I just did a search and they have kits for the Mustang that are like $1800.

Interesting mod....

The mod we're talkin about would rout the cold air from the airconditioner to the engine so that refrigerated air is ingested for combustion. To work better than an interccoler for supercharged engines like the Ford Lighning.

Very True..........Of course a better, modded A/C unit with the r134a sucked out and r404a recharged ought to do it.
