Unhappy Torque converter lock-up problems..

First of all, a big "HELLO" to all my fellow Tundra owners! This is my first post on this site. I have a 2000 SR5 access cab w/72,000 mostly highway miles. I am getting ready to go to the dealer( or local tranny shop) in regards to an incident that happened the other day. After about a 30 mile hike on the highway my wife got off at her exit and came to a stop at the first set of lights. The truck stalled out immediatly. She restarted and as soon as she dropped into gear, it stalled again. The state police had her towed to the nearest service station two blocks away. When I had gotten there about an hour later the truck seemed to be fine. So I proceeded to drive it back home. The same thing then happened to me. When I got off at my exit and started slowing down I notied that the TC was not comming out of lock-up and the truck stalled when I came up to a stop sign. I started it back up and dropped it int gear and it stalled. I restarted it reved it up to 18-1900rpm and dropped it into gear. After an obvious big bang, the TC un-locked and I was able to get the tundra into my driveway. Just wondering if anyone has experienced someting similar and what the outcome was.

I've heard of a few going out and needing replacement on 2000 Tundras. Maybe try searching the site?

My 2000 Tundra is in the shop as we speak for this same problem. Everytime I would put it in gear, the engine would stall. The mechanic told me today that it was the lock-up switch and that it would cost around $100 to replace.

cwasilenko:

I would like a follow up, did the lock up switch cure your problem? Was the transmission involved?

Thanks
Todd
