Default Valve Chatter Upon Startup; Due To Defective Check Valve In Mobile 1 Oil Filter !!

ALLRIGHT BOY'S; I recently changed my engine oil a week or so ago and noticed that after I did this I would hear valve chatter upon startup, only after it sat all night or all day at work. Now just so you know I used the same parts and oil that was in the engine allready, which was Mobil 1 5w-30 sythetic oil and a Mobil 1 oil filter M-102. So, last night I finally said enough allready and pulled out the M-102 Oil Filter, well the check valve had a little bubble or deformaty on the inner seal below the metal threaded endplate. Now, as I stated before the previous M-102 filter did not do this and I had NO Valve Chatter upon startup. So, needless to say I am going to take my sales recipt back to Autozone and get my money back on this filter, I also am pretty dissappointed that a filter that costs $12 Bucks a pop has this problem !!!!! So this brings me to this subject; I have been doing some extensive reshearch on allternative filters for these engines as you can see from all of my previous posts on this subject. So I installed the Purolator Pure One Micronic Filter Part# PL-30001 last night and everthing so far is checking out great. The oil pressure is identical as before. both in range, RPM wise and in pressures. And I have yet to hear Valve Chatter upon startup !!! I plan to monitor this experiment closely and will keep you guy's posted !!!

PS: The best part of this gig is that I stongly believe that I am getting a superior filter in both design and efficiency to the TRD Filter# 00602-90915-007 and the Toyota Filter#90915-YZZ-B5 and to boot getting this Purolator Micronic for $6 BUCKS A POP !!!!!!

FEED BACK WELCOME GUY'S !!!!!!!

I agree... I use ONLY The Pure-1 and Amzoil 20W50 Race blend...
All I need do is check oil every 5k or so.. and let it ride!

SCTRD; Do you use the Micronic PL-3001 filter, Dont know if it is a good idea to use the 20w- 50 oil though ??? Puts a lot of drag and strain on your oil pump drive. The 4.7 has real tight tollerances between all the bearings, cam lifters. You would be better off running 10w-30 in the cooler months, and mabe 15w-40 in the summer months. I know it can get pretty hot down there in Georgia !! Hey but if its workin for ya let it be !!!

Thanks for the reply !!!!

I agree... I was worried about it.. but... with a S/C engine and Gawja being as hot as it has been... so far so good. I ran 50W-50 in my Tacoma 3.4L for 126K and it was still solid.. So.. I go with what I know!

The amzoil is "thinner" molecule wise than the fossil stuff anyway and is uniform in size.
