Im going to get a glasspack muffler on my Tercel pretty soon. I found a shop that does it for $65 for parts and labor. Now Im thinking that I want to get one for my V6 Tundra too. I noticed there is a clamp about 2 feet back from the cat converter (about 1 foot in front of the muffler).
Is there a kit that contains just the section from this clamp back to the tailpipe (incl the muffler) already bent and welded so all I have to do is clamp it in? Im looking for something loud, so in the lines of a glasspack, spintech, flowmaster, etc. Power gains would be a plus but not necessary, I want volume! I would also hope that its relatively inexpensive. $200-300 maximum.
dont go cheap man. that glasspack on any modern car is going to kill your performance. if i were you for the tercel id get a ricer muffler even though i hate them thats what matches that car, and for the tundra a nice cat-back using a performance muffler, you will regret the glasspack in the long run

Not for my daily driver, but my backup T100... is it possible to get that Harley sound from a 3.4L V6 without killing performance?
Just wondering...
BTW, This site looks and flows great. Nice work!

OK, well it looks like my tundra catalytic converter is welded to about 2 feet of pipe, unlike the tercel which has pipes bolted to either side of the cat. Like I said is there a kit (spintech?) that is completely bolt on, from the clamp 2 feet back from the cat through to the tailpipe?
for the v6, i have heard good things about flowmaster bat back systems and the spintech mufflers also sound good. havent heard a lot on the v6 cause mine is a v8 and i dont research the 6 near as much, sorry, that is all the info i have, PM some of the members you see that have a v6 and aftermarket exhaust and ask them
Im wondering if there is a kit that only goes from the clamp shown in the pic back to the tailpipe. Ive heard of "catback" exhausts, but my cat seems to be welded tothe pipe and it would be a lot easier if I could just undo this clamp, take the old muffler/pipes off, slap the new LOUDER one on and clamp it up. Thanks for all the help so far!
Well, I got a glasspack on my Tercel today, cost me only $40! There was an old Chevy there that was having true duals with glasspacks and straight pipes installed. I talked to the guy and he can put straight pipes on my tundra for about $180 (one pipe into muffler, two pipes out) and that includes a flowmaster muffler. For one pipe in and one out, its only $125 with a flowmaster. Has anyone just taken the truck to the local guys and let them fix it up?

Last Wednesday, I dropped mine off at our local Muffler shop, it took the fella about an hour & half to remove the stock system and install the single in-dual out Flowmaster 70 with dual pipes behind each rear tire with chromed tips.
In the process (I'm not sure) but I think he swapped the Y-pipe around so it was straight inline with the single-in port of the muffler.
The price I paid for this was $305. I'm really happy with the sound and the quality of the job.

I think Im gonna have my shop fabricate a pipe/muffler that will bolt on at the resonator with a flowmaster 40 series, or whatever is the loudest one. That way, if I get tired of the droning in the cab, I can put the stock muffler back on in 20 mins for roadtrips, etc. I think my shop will only charge me about $125-150 for this setup ($90 for muffler, the rest pipes and labor). They really sounded like they want to weld it on, but Id rather not since my truck is new, under warranty, and Im not 100% Ill want a loud exhaust all the time. Plus I might want to buy a dual straight pipes kit in the future. The hillbilly in me wants straightpipes!
ok, you need to think about this. do you really want your power to suffer a bunch just so you can have a moderatly loud sound? the straight pipes would make your truck lose a lot of power because of the way the truck comes from the factory with lots of backpressure to be effective. this is the way the computer is tuned, and the way your engine will work. if you want a good setup get just the flowmaster single in single or dual out, same pipe size, and in the stock location, trust me, i have investigated this and know the owner of a muffler shop. think about if you want power or sound?
wes,
I'm not wanting to lose power of course. My muffler guy would make a single-in, dual out straight pipes if I asked. He basically said he'd do anything. No emissions checks in my area. He'd cut out the cat if I wanted! My first request of him will be a bolt on from the resonator single in, single out pipe with a flowmaster 40. This way I can swap it in/out by myself. My understanding is that the 40 is the loudest one. So in case I get sick of the droning, I can bolt the stock setup back on myself. He says he can do this for $125-150. Much cheaper than an online kit at about $300+. I should have several built and deal to you guys!
Back in the day my dad used to know a guy who kept a tunnel ram in his trunk for his '60s hot rod. This guy would put the tunnel ram on, drag race, then take it off for daily driving and better gas mileage. Thats kinda what Im looking to do. I wouldnt mind having one setup witha flowmaster 40, one with a spintech, one with a magnaflow, one with a glasspack, etc, so I can change out my muffler tunes daily if I wanted
What's wrong with a glasspack? I've got one on mine as a 1in 2out after resonater setup for almost 3yrs and none bad has come of it. Elaborate the ups and downs please. The only thing I noticed is a nice deep rumble. Very distinct from other trucks on the road.

alright gang. make up your mind! i'm looking for an aftermarket exhaust, mainly for sound purposes but i don't want to lose any power if possible. my two choices are the spintech pro street or sportsman vs. the flowmaster 40 or 50 series. my goal is to have a deep V8 rumble, a la Mustang 5.0 or Corvette. NOt, high-pitched and annoying like like a ricer racer. ya dig? what do you guys think? thanks for the input

There are no prefabed kits for just the section you mentioned.
Weld on is the best to prevent potential gasket leaks. In your case though, wanting to remove and replace, flanging would be the way to go.
I run a Spintech Prostreet on mine. Very deep and plenty of drone. I cut the exhaust directly behind the y, eliminating the resonator, did 3" back with Mandrel bent 3" pipe. This is on a V8.
If you want volume on your v6, ask your shop for a 1 chamber Flowmaster. That will tone it up ALOT.
