Default Trd Supercharger For 01 Tundrda 4.7l

Has anyone installed or heard of someone installing the TRD supercharger from Toyota for the 2001 4.7L Tundra? Was it worth the investment for the peformance gain? I was thinking about having one installed by Toyota but it is very expensive and I was concerned about reliability. Anyone have any thoughts on this performance option? Thanks!

got a sweet deal on mine, lots of power, gas mileage either rises or stays the same and its a genuine toyota part so it runs parallel with your warranty. It cranks out 275hp to the wheels. check with sterling mccall toyota, cheapest price ive found. 3500-3600.

To put that in perspective a stock Tundra cranks out ~ 205 horsepower to the rear wheels and 275 ft. lbs. of torque.

Thanks for the feedback. In reviewing the website for TRD parts, it recommends a new chip be installed by Toyota along with the S/C so that you get the maximum gain from the S/C. Did you have any other parts installed on your Tundra, like the chip? I have a K&N drop in filter and Magna cat-back muffler system on my truck now. Those two upgrades gave me better throttle response but it's hard to say if the truck is any quicker. The price quote of 3500-3600, is that just for the part or is that for the installation also. Thanks.

you will notice a night and day difference in power. No sugar pill exhaust and filter can match. 3600 is just parts labor is at toyota delaerships nad it varies from state to state Ive heard it as cheap as 250 installed to 900. I got mine for 460 and i live in southern california.

I agree with you that the mods for catback and K&N are just for sound and better air filtration. The last question I had on the S/C which I forgot to ask you was regarding "pinging" under hard acceleration. I use 93 octane AAMOCO gas in my truck today and I've been on 2 message boards and many people report complaints about a pinging sound under hard acceleration or 3/4 to full throttle with the S/C. Are you having any issues like that? Big thanks!

I do but theres an easy solution if you have not already done it. You need to switch your spark plugs to a cooler set. Denso Iridiums ik22's or ik24's, or you can go with NGK v grooves. Both are TRD recommended and should take that pinging away. If its still continues call TRD and complain to them that this problem is making you want to a refund. They should offer you new supercharger pulleys that are also a pinging solution.
