Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "underdrive pully feedback please", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I'm highly considering an underdrive pulley , and have read the previous posts regarding the infamous group buy etc. etc. and how you guys had to wait sooooo long to finally get your pulley's. I'm assuming you got them by now and i'm looking for feedback.
Quality of merch.?
Install labor?
Running accesories at idle?
perf. improvment? where in rpm band
MPG increase?
was it worth it?
Quality is good.
Self install, no cost.
No mpg yet, need more time.
Same performance improvement as headers. Through out the entire rpm. According to 3 runs with stop watched, about .25sec quicker to 60mph.
My lights DOES dim. I'm 100% sure. I will need a 130amp alt.
Other than lights dimming at idle I'm happy.

Note that ASP's site has problems with their search function. You can only find the pulley by clicking on the "Your Cart" button on the top header. It will then show you have nothing in your shopping cart, but it will also provide a search function that works. Use "331340" as the part number and you should see the pulley for $150. (Thanks goes to biggary for this info.) Searching for "331340" from the main page bombs out (the result doesn't display correctly in the top frame - lame!)
Seee-ya!
Jim.

I'm satisfied with everything but the way the whole sale was handled. Install was completely effortless (friend owns local Meinekes and did me a favor). I don't get any dimming either. I've got the big alternator tho.

What do you mean "big alternator"? I assume that is the so called heavy duty alt that is included in the all weather package which I have too but mine dims noticably at idle. I have 76,XXX miles, could it be my alt is wearing out?
Well after alot more driving time there is a noticable increase in power from the underdrive pulley. Still get the dimming though.
One more thing, read previous post before settling in on the one we got.

According to the brochure from Toyota the All Weather Package contains heavy-duty battery, starter and heater, includes heated mirrors when power mirrors are offered. This brochure could be different than your vehicle. I believe it applied to the '03 and '04 model years.
The towing package (for '03 and '04) contain the hreavy-duty 130 amp alternator.

Yes, for '02 heated mirrors are not included in the All Weather package with power mirrors. I have both and don't have heated mirrors.
I also have the tow package and haven't noticed any dimming. I checked my original window sticker and standard is a 100 amp alternator. So, ricqik, if you don't have the tow package, this explains why your lights dim at idle as I don't see this problem...
Seee-ya,
Jim.

I do have the tow package and the 100amp alt. I don't have any other aftermarket 12V accessories except the oem stuff. The dimming only happens when the rpm drops down to about 700rpm or lower.

I need a addy, number ...etc to get an overdrive pulley for my tundra.
I am setting up my install and tuning of a unichip and would like to have the pulley for tuning. Please let me know asap with details!!!
Just finished with pulley install. Well worth the money IMO...the time to get it is another matter. Most definately have power increase throughout the entire RPM range, also transmition shifts better and at slighly less RPM. I would believe the 8HP claim from nitrousfed to be accurate.
I do have the 130 amp alternator, and DO notice a very slight dimming of lights with fogs and accessories on. If I'm in drive with all accessories on, at 600 RPM in drive ,and hit brake and gas it to bring RPM up, I can see lights increase brightness ever so slightly. Not a problem from what I can tell, more an observation about anyone wanting to spend the money just to prevent some dimming.
Truck runs dead quite as others post, pulley runnout was less then .001 from ID to pulley grooves. Install a breeze, took 40 minutes taking my time, with NO wheel puller.
I see no problem with replacing the rubber dampened stock pulley at this point, and have my own new opinion on why OEM pulley IS rubber dampened...I'll discuss that in pulley thread.
