Have read the good material on this site and have made the move. Got the Nordskog digital (thank you Frankie S.) and after reading and listening to the pros & cons from numerous sources will be going with a pan sensor install.
For those who have done this:
1) Any sensor clearance issues within the pan? Will be mounting it on the side.
Any recommendations as to exactly where. Haven't dropped the pan yet.
2) The Nordskog has a dimming feature when lights turned on. I'm sure most
of the gauges do. Any recommendations for a headlight 12V source that I'll
connect the 'dimmer' lead to? For the regular 12V lead I'm planning on using
the same source as I used for the temp/compass auto dim rear view mirror.
Any thoughts on this?
3) Any recommendations for a plastic paint match supplier out of the can?
4) Nordskog recommendation an engine ground location for best results. For
anyone that's done it what point did you use?
I believe someone's pulling together some installation instructions that will prove most helpful. Meanwhile I'm on the move here and your advice will be most appreciated. Thanks, Dave.
Re item 3) in a previous post re painting up the gauge pod. Will be using an aerosol can (no spray gun) and couldn't find a good color match with VHT Penetrating Color Dye or Krylon Fusion plastic paint. So, will just take it to a shop that makes it up (matches) in the exact color required. Voila!. A little more expensive perhaps but who cares, look at the truck it's going in...right(?) Dave.
whats the point of a tranny temp gauge??? is it for towing? only for towing? please inform me. thanks
It seemed to me that the weak link in the big 3 was the transmission, if there was/is a weak link, when getting into towing. I bought the Tundra back when they first came out and felt confident, because of previous Toyota car experience, that along with other things their transmission would be comparatively 'bulletproof'. It would appear this isn't the case (see posts by rsvees and others re the planetary gear).
Yes, I'm installing the gauge because I tow and I want to do everything I can to preserve the transmission..synthetic ATF and regular changes, OD off at all times and now very careful attention to the temperature.
I'm most disapointed with the planetary gear issue and will just keep my fingers crossed. The mileage with OD off all the time is POOR but hopefully will turn out to be the better alternative. Dave.
Hi Monfort, have you completed the install of the temp. gauge? How is it working?
Thanks,
Herbicidal

Hi, yes in and working well and thanks to help from the members. Took a little non-towing trip from home down to N.H. last week and going through Franconia Notch it was around -37! The gauge wasn't reading too high... Regards, Dave
