Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Remote Mounted Turbo Kit for Tacoma/Tundra", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
It costs the same as the TRD supercharger. By the looks of it...I would go with the supercharger. It looks like it is kind of pieced together. Also, their dyno run shows the Tundra 4.7 putting out 136 Hp at 4285 rpms. There couldn't possible be that much drivetrain loss could there? With the Turbo it puts out 192 hp at 4900 rpms. 0-60 in stock form is 12 seconds...you gotta be kidding me.
ya, after really researching it, when it comes time for me to get a turbo, if that is ever, i will get a custom install. that kit is not a kit taht i would use and trust.
but i really dont think ill need one, i think my tundra can tow pretty well stock
Hey I bought one of these kits and installed it myself. I upgraded to a Garret gt35R TURBO . I really dont know how much power I am Making but I can beat c5 corvettes up to 100 mph after that I hit my governor. I too have a g-tech and my numbers were very different. 0-60 was 5.1 seconds and 1/4 mile was 13.2 at 105. When i get some $ i wil have it dynoed. my truck is stock everywhere else. I do all of this with only 4psi of boost. I plan to go to 8 psi but only after I get some more mods. for now I am glad i dint buy the TRD. I have heard lots of problems . This kit only voids my intake and exhaust warrenty I already took it by my dealership and asked , since there are no mods to the engine physically the muffler and the air box is all you have to remove. This is a darn good deal. Speak to Rick at sts and he will send you to a local dealer for a lower price . I paid 3600 fo mine plus I upgraded to the gt35r for only 300 buck more. I wll try to post pics once I learn .

Hi,
I.m new to this site. I've been testing trucks for the past two months, Nissan, Ford and today the Tundra. I thought all of them had something lacking in the power department. I did however like the Tundra. I understand there is a Supercharger and a Turbo for it? I'm not much of a MOD guy, just looking for something to give it some decent acceleration. I would prefer to keep it all under warranty and not pay a whole lot ($2-3,000). CXan someone educate me on the basics of theses two options?
