Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "3.4L V6 TRD Superchargers", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Yes it takes me a while to get any miles on this thing. But now about 700 miles later I thought I'd post an update as to how this SC is performing. First off, I definitely like the extra power it provided, I've been trying to drive normal for mpg comparison but the times I've stomped the gas it now scoots much more than before. It will easily smoke the tire( no lsd) and these are heavy AR wheels and LT265/75 D rated tires. MPG is just about the same, as long as I'm driving about the same. Now as a side note I think I'll be checking into my MAF sensor, seems that since I cleaned it and added the K&N drop in that my mileage has slowly suffered since then, previous to SC, but no change since the SC install.
As for pinging, I've noticed it a few times, seems like after I've driven enough to really warm everything up and stop for a few, restart and drive again, is when it does ping. Thinking of trying the 160 thermostat, any thoughts on that? And yes I'll still be checking on the 7th injector kit when it gets released for the Tundra.
All in all I'm happy with the decision, for the money it was better to me than taking the depreciation, trade in loss and getting the V8, I'll save that for if and when Toyota releases a 3/4 ton and move up then. This truck was already a step up from an '87 ext cab 22R.
Edit: Oh and boost, floored it will hit 8 psi
7th injector setup should take care of the pinging issues. If I still had my S/C Tacoma I would have had the 7th injector kit by now.

Toyota Dealer is charging me a $560.00 total for installing a TRD Supercharger and the Limit Slip Diff? The other Toyota Dealer wanted $575?
What do you think, I will ask the guys at Carson Toyota?
The price sounds like they are in the ball park.

I can't do it now, I'm waiting for my Escrow for a Duplex to close, paid for my vacation to Cancun in August and don't have the cash to get it install yet
I was wondering how I get my local Toyota dealer to take pictures of the installation and post it on this site or Off Road Magazine and maybe get it install free~

Exposure!
Good luck! Dealers don't seem to want to "barter" anything!
Still no word as to a 7th injector for the Tundra. I gave up asking TRD directly since I got a different story every time anyway. I heard it's 1-almost ready 2-definitely not being made 3-still in R&D . Maybe someone with better connections (Victor?) could get a better answer.
just put on my s/c today, yes its a tacoma, but same motor. it doesnt feel as fast as i thought, about 40 miles on it. did anyone with the s/c notice a big increase in power as the computer adjusts? hope so, as it stands im not 100%happy............thanks

Jon youve got 2 choices 7th injector kit or URD fuel kit both are highly regarded. If you have an auto, do a valve body mod BIG difference. Keau
Hey Jon - doesn't mater what the engine's in - it's what you do to it that counts! I wish I had the $$ to slap one on my wife's Camry and really smoke the tires!
Sorry to hear it's not performing up to your expectations, but listen to Keau - he's pretty well informed on the topic!
Unfortunately, I don't have the S/C experience yet - but hopefully will soon! I'm also waiting to hear back from URD what their suggestions are. I may post a new thread with the info as well if it justifies it.
Hang in there a bit and let us know if your ECU seems to adjust soon or not!
p.s the injectors they are using, are the same size as a TURBO SUPRA. HUGE
lots of fuel, he got 6 mpg best.
Just to clear everyone on this the injectors are not that big....They are the same size as the N/A Supra.
