Also, there is currently a comparison test underway that member NHPARROT is conducting. Search for it to see current status.

Thanks. I have read the study results and it will be another 5-6 months before he gets to test the K&N filter.

I have no clue how this came to be...

the dude was half right. the airflow sensor in the airbox will get gummed up because of the oil used in the dropin filter, HOWEVER, this is remedied by giving the sensor a shot of brake parts cleaner. The mechanic at my yota dealer showed me this and damn if it didn't work. I could tell a difference. He said about every 20,000 to 30,000 just spray it and she'll be good to go.

remember you have to spray the sensor inside the airbox.

as a side note, i used a K&N drop in for my Wrangler for about until i got this ROCK-IT AIR TUBE W/ K&N FILTER, so i might do the same with the Tundra

Tundra bear I dont know what year your truck is but have heard bads and goods about the gen II like truck wont run right, the check engine light comes on. The mechanic at the yota dealer i go to said he has seen a couple tundras with problems using the gen II kit. Just make sure that wherever you get it from you can take it back if it doesnt work out.

The tundra is finiky

You are both using the drop in filter into the stock airbox and are seeing nothing but plusses at this point? I have 16K and I am considering on switching myself.

Yeah way. The only thing done was at 30,000 the air intake sensor was shot quick like with some brake parts cleaner.

No issues with the drop in at 30,000. I think I put it in at around 1500 mi.

I also put in the K&N drop-in filter, right after I bought the truck. I only have 7500 miles on it, but did get slightly better gas mileage. I don't notice any extra noise, either. I have used K&N filters on previous cars and a motorcycle, and found they were always a quality part.

I threw in the K&N filter alone. I didn't do the GenII upgrade. I did notice that the rpms on the highway at 80 mph went from 2800 to 2400. I liked that. Not much of a noise difference though.
I am at 30000 miles and have yet to need to clean it. I have been on 3 hunts and 2 desert trips since putting it in and it is still fine.
I think this is a great filter.
