Default Engine Light 2003 Tundra

Just was driving to the store with my 03 Tundra with 5800 miles on it and the Engine Light came on. Kinda scary being this new and all. Has this happened to and other 03 owners?

Mine just came on 3 days ago...I have 11000 miles on my '03 Tundra. I was just driving along and on came the light. I'm going to take it in Monday to have it checked. I tried playing with the gas cap..no change. I'm sure it's something to do with an O2 sensor or emissions.. the truck still runs fine.

Tightened the gas cap on mine (didn't seem loose) and diconnected my battery cable for 30 minutes and the light is off. It is way too soon for an O2 Sensor to go with only 5800 or 11000 miles.

Let me know how you make out at the dealer.

Do not assume any check engine light is associated with the o2 sensor's. There are 60+ diagnostics that may be reported, only 10 of which are associated to the o2 sensors. Have your dealer check the code.

The thought had crossed my mind just to try reseting the ECU like Fedexgnd. My thought there would be if the light doesn't come back on, it's probably the gas cap or some other quirk. I'm off on Tuesday anyway, so I figured I would just let the dealership put it on the computer. Since the truck is under warranty, I agree to get the truck checked.

I just got back from the dealer. Engine code 4-4-2....emissions leak at the gas cap. The dealer replaced the gas cap gasket and reset the code. Everything else checked out fine.
