The AMSOIL Power Foam is designed specifically for this purpose. It works so well that a Ford dealership I know of uses it instead of their own Motorcraft equivalent...

Been there, done that. A toothbrush loosens the crud nicely but it won't remove it from the throat. That's what the paper towels do. With a good cleaner, such as Gumout carb cleaner, you won't need the brush but you'll still need the paper towels.

Good to know....this may take a little looking into.
I was able to wipe some away at first inspection with a finger-so I may just use a rag and some water.
Thanks.

I saved this before the crash. It`s by TS member DJ.
CLEAN YOUR THROTTLE BODY
I suggest you clean your body. It`s easy, and the "gook" builup can give you a rough and slow idle.
It`s easy. Get a spray bottle of any good carb cleaner. Remove the pretty cover over the throttle body, then loosen the clamp holding the air intake on it , pull the air intake toward you (hard) to pop it loose, and finally pull it upwards and out of the way. A hose is clamped
to the top of this air intake, so just remove the bolt and move it out the way, too.
Use a long-shaft screwdriver to hold the throttle butterfly open, but DON`T scrape it on the edges. Wad up a paper towel and hold it with a surgical clamp (you really don`t want to let go of it in the intake manifold). Use the tube
with the carb cleaner spray and direct the spray carefully. Spray it a few seconds directly onto the inner surface where the throttle butterfly works, then swab it out with the paper towel. Replace the paper towel and do it again. Keep it up until all the surfaces are clean and dry-- it should take only a few minutes.
Then put it back together and start it up . If you did it right, it`ll be smooth at start. If you overspray and underwiped, it`ll be rough for a short time as the overspray is pulled through the cylinders.
I did mine just yesterday, with 27,xxx miles on it. The idle is smooth, like new, and the idle speed picked up about 200 RPM.
