Mine idled rough because it was idling to low. ( below bottom mark) should be between two bottom marks. I adj the cable & no problem.. I don't think you have a cable adjustment on the 03 so if it is low the dealership is the only one who can adjust the computer. How many miles do you have?? Cleaning the throttle body and butterfly (bothsides) & possibly you may need new plugs change at +30,000mi. A Tundra v-8 is one smooth running engine and should not run rough at all. Idle as smooth as silk is what most owners experience... Try a different dealer.

Tell the person you talked to that he's full of it, they will idle smooth unless there's a problem. Go start a few trucks from the lot and sit in them for comparison and inform the dealer that it's not normal to have a rough idle and shake while stopped.

Good Luck!

p.s. Don't settle for his answer, tell them they need to adjust it because your unsatisfied with it's current condition.

Take it back again and again if necessary. Document, document, document. In the meanwhile review your rights; search: Lemon Law @ http://www.ca.gov

Default Why Worry

Why worry about a rough idle? if it starts and runs, just drive it. do you spend more time idling or driving?

because a rough idle may be indicative of something more serious in the future.

Toyota reps came down and looked at it and said it is normal. I took your advise and sat in one at the dealer and it did not idle rough at all but the rep said (these are new thats why they dont do it right now). Mine only has 4500 miles on it and its getting worse. they just dont seem to care that much about mine cause its SOLD i guess . I never had this much trouble with my silverado they took care of every thing quik and asked no ?s. FOR SALE...................................

i have the same problem you have.
it idles way rough when I'm stopped in gear.
It sometimes shakes like it wants to die.
the tach is at about 500 rpm which, to me, seems low.
the dealer said they can't do anything about it, and it's
normal.
every other car, automatic, that i've ever rode in doesn't act like that.
I heard somewhere along the line that it's due to a cable set up.
I was reading in the above post about how he tightened it, but like he said, the 03's don't have the same setup.
Keep me posted if you get it fixed or it stops.
I have 15000 on mine and it's done it since about 3000. It's gotten better over time but still...
it's only got 15000 miles.
