You will find using something like ( Lincoln Lubrication Extended Needle Nozzle for U-Joint Greasing ) will make your work easier. It generally just attaches to the grease gun. You then press the point (of the needle) to the opening of the zerk and hold it there while you pump the gun.

How are you guys using a needle on your gun to grease the standard zerts on the driveline? I use the standard gun adaptor.

Send me an email and I can send you a drawing of where they all are. Soon I hope to have this info posted within the Garage forums.

Be careful not to overgrease the zert for the slip yoke near the rear diff. One of the Toyota techs told me you can put too much axial pressure on the rear diff(and harm it) by overgreasing there.

How are you guys using a needle on your gun to grease the standard zerts on the driveline? I use the standard gun adaptor.

...and Toyota recommends Moly and Lithium based grease in different areas... These are not compatible with one another. Some synthetic greases are, though.

Also, the needle type adapter for your gun will fit those hard to reach zerks. Don't waste your $$ on a 90 degree elbow adapter- it wont fit!!

Kev there are eight Zerks on the 4x4 and the needle grease fitting makes the whole job take like 5 minutes. I used a synthetic lube which works.
I also lubed the driveline on flat ground just put it in neutral and twisted the shaft as needed.
Good luck

I remember a post that generated a few responses about the number and accessability of some of the zerts on the drive shaft (fore and aft). I count seven on my 4X4. Am I missing any? It seemed that someone else recomendxed a needle type fitting for the grease gun to access some zerts. I think I could reach all I see with a stand tip attachment and elevate the rear end to spin the driveshaft for good accessability. I can't remember if during the discussion the carrier bearing had a zert or lube access. I'm about to do the first chassie type lube service and need some advice. As in previous vehicles, I've always used a reputable lithium-based grease but I'm all ears on what you all have had good luck with in wet conditions. Thanks in advance.
