Question Tundra 4x4 Maintenance:lubricating The Propeller Shaft?

Where Is The Propeller Shaft And How Do You Do This. I Do All My Own Maintenance And Would Like To Know How To Do This Myself. I Asked My Dealer And He Wouldn't Help, They Want Me To Pay For That Service. I Have A 02 Sr5 4x4 And Love It. Best Truck That I Have Ever Had!

It's the driveshaft. To lubricate it you'll either need to get a thin zerk tip for your grease gun or get a needle fitting for the end.

Of the two, the needle is the easiest and cleanest. As long as you keep pressure on the needle head (to push the zerk fitting ball in) it will work great. It's even easier than a normal fitting. You just have to be more careful lining it up the tip to the fitting.

I also recommend that you get the grease fitting caps from

http://www.avlube.com/

They're worth it. You'll need to pull some of them off the zerk fittings with a needle nose pliers, but they'll keep your fittings sparkling clean so that when you use a needle fitting, it's easy to see the ball. I wish I'd had these things 20 years ago.

By the way, I use Amsoil HD moly grease on my 4wd shafts and I'm happy. With that stuff you can lube every three oil changes (21,000 miles) and it's good enough.

I would only use a *good* moly grease though.
