Question Mobil 1 75W-90 Synthetic in Limited Slip Diff?? Amsoil??

The Mobil 1 website says their 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Oil offers "excellent limited slip performance".

http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...rLubricant.asp

Toyota specifies "hypoid gear oil for limited slip differential API GL-5 SAE 90 above 0 degrees F or SAE 80W or 80W-90 below 0 degrees F".

Is anyone using Mobil 1 in their LSD??? Recommendations??? Experiences??? Do any 'friction modifiers' need to be added???

Anyone using Amsoil and their Friction modifier??

Default I have Mobil1 in,

Has been in for 20k.I did need to add LSD additive the first time because of clutch noise. The second I added it first.I do the rear every 10k to keep it clean.
No leaks so far.

i've used it in my 2002 lsd and there was some chatter. had to add about 3oz of a lsd modifier to fix the problem - others haven't had to do this.

I had to add 4 oz of friction modifier to eliminate the chatter.

I changed to Mobil 1 75w90, plus friction modifier purchased from Carson Toyota, and have had chattering for the past 15k. Tried adding another tube of friction modifier and still had chattering.

Just changed oil again (now 30k miles) and used Pennzoil GEARPLUS® SAE 80W-90 GL-5 GEAR LUBRICANT I found at K-Mart by accident. I was planning on using Castrol Hypoy C with a tube of the LSD additive, couldn't find the Castrol product, and the wording on the Pennzoil changed my mind.

"It is designed to reduce or eliminate “chatter” that can sometimes occur in limited slip differentials." says the data sheet at http://www.pzlqs.com/Tech/Pdsheet/In...rLubricant.pdf

The data sheet also states: "In addition, PENNZOIL® GEARPLUS® SAE 80W-90 GL-5 is fully formulated for all limited slip differentials."

The bottle actually states that no LSD additive is required, and in fact is not recommended.

It sounds like this stuff is made to work in LSD's straight out of the bottle.

My chatter disappeared immediately . I will use the same product for my next LSD change.

I will still use Mobil 1 75w90 for the transfer case and front open differential.

Hope this helps.

Question Amsoil???

These responses don't inspire much confidence in a switch to Synthetic Mobil 1.

Anyone using Amsoil 80W-90 with or without their friction modifier???

Yesterday I changed the LSD Differential with Trans X and Mobile 1 Synthetic
for the first time. Very easy, although I did find metal shavings on the magnetic
bolt, but I believe this may be from the manufacture (I hope)! No leaks!

Switched to Mobil1 in my LSD about 1K miles ago with no issues so far. I did add friction additive at the beginning though.

I used Redline 75W90. No additive. No problem. LSD does not engage abruptly like OEM fill.
