Also, what you can do is actually lift the front end while the drain plug is out. It will get more fluid out especially out the torque converters, since the "T" will be more of at an angle.

This weekend I decided to change the tranny fluid in my 2001 Tundra. So I got out the ol' owners manual and checked fluid capacity of the transmission. It said "drain and refill=2.1 U.S. Qts". so I headed off to pep boys and bought three qts.
Drained the tranny and noticed that it seemed like alot more than 2 qts were coming out.
I poured in 2 qts and it was way low.
Continued to add the entire third qt and it was still a little low.
How much does it actually hold? I did not pump it out of the torque converter, which holds more.

Same thing happened with my change. I had to add about 3 1/2 quarts to get it up to within range on the stick.
