guys, thanks for your responses. today after my truck warmed up for 5 minutes or so and i came to a idle at a stoplight. the oil pressure was down at half way. I guess the only time i looked at the guage was during warm up and accelerating. I did notice that with small amount of throttle it would go to the 3/4 mark and stay. when i decelerate it drops to 1/3. Truck runs fine, no problems.

Mark,
I was concerned when I first bought my 2001 Tundra with the high oil pressure upon start up. One of the reasons I went with synthetic oil after the first 1000 miles. If you can, watch the pressure gauge initially, then again after about 2-5 miles of trtavel and see if the oil pressure comes down a little. I've noticed high oil pressure on start ups and that she runs " a click or so from max". But after a few miles, she warms up pretty fast (even under low speeds and RPMs; nothing over 2000 until the temp gauge is a few clicks past the first line) and the oil pressure resides a little above the 3/4 mark. I also notice that after about five miles or so and come to a stop, the oil pressure comes down significantly. If you have high oil pressure after ten miles or so when at idle, take it back to your dealer and have them at least document your observations and get it on record. It may be a faulty sending unit at the worst.
Bottom line, it seems characteristic that the V-8s run high on oil pressure especially on start-ups.
Kev.

No, I would say that is not normal. My oil pressure gauge fluctuates with engine RPM as it should. When it is cold and RPMs are up around 3000+, oil pressure will be about 3/4 scale. At normal temperature, it is about mid scale at 2000 rpm and about 1 tick mark off the bottom of the gauge at idle. This is normal for a Tundra V8 and just about any other Toyota out there (my 1984 Supra does the same thing with 200,000+ miles on it).
I think the owners manual also has a picture that shows normal oil pressure indications. I would think that you have a problem with the oil sending unit or the gauge. Go back to the dealer and fire up a couple of Tundras on the lot to see if your oil pressure is "normal".

My oil pressure quage on the insturment cluster seems to always be setting one click from max. Is this normal? dealer said they all do it. just seems a little high. What do you all think?
