Default No Throttle responce; Engine light on

It has happened two times when I started the truck on a cold morning. I started out this morning and about a half a mile from my house the truck would not go and the engine was still idleing but very fast. The check engine light came on. I could floor the accelerator and the engine would respond slightly. I shut it off and when I started it back up it was OK. The first time it done this I took it to AutoZone(dealer could not get to me untill the next day) and it came back with a code on for the throttle postioning sensor. I am taking it in to dealer tomorow. Has anyone else had this problem or hear of it before....Mitch

It's happened to Lexus SUVs with the same engine, the TPS is the culprit.

Toyota dealer said it was the Throttle PEDAL sensor not position sensor. It is expensive at $275+$85 labor. It is the part on the throttle body that your throttle cable comes to and it has all of three screws holding it. I am going to read my Haynes manual again but i think i might be able to do it for less than $85 myself. The bottom line is (IMHO) that this is more B.S. that don't need to be on the Tundra just something to tear up. ..Mitch

Sorry, next time I'll say it could be one of the two.

Did they say it's the Throttle/Pedal position sensor or the Accelerator Pedal position sensor? Regardless they're basically the same sensor,5-volt constant voltage with a signal range of 0-5 volts, and are connected to the same shaft.

I'll tell ya, your better off replacing the whole throttle body, it's hell to change just the sensor! I've tried twice and both time ended up replacing the throttle body, both were on L/C's.

You must be thinking about another type of sensor. All I have to do is disconnect the throttle cable and remove three screws. Why would I want to replace the throttle body?

I replaced the throttle pedal sensor myself today; it took about 15 minutes. The worst part of it was paying for the sensor, which I got at 25% of dealer price, which still cost $186+tax. I hope this was the cure...Mitch

The sensor has to be adjusted correctly, or the light will continue to come on. The TPS is very difficult too!

Rsvees, you are talking about the throttle position sensor. It does require very carefull calibration and a special tool for doing it. I replaced the throttle PEDAL sensor which is very simple to replace. It is the part that your throttle cable goes to and moves back and forth as you press the throttle with your foot....Mitch

The L/C could be diff too, we had a recall on all 03 Jap built cars for accell position sensor problems, so maybe they're different, you'll find out for sure in a couple days! I will see if I can find out though.

I just picked up my truck from the dealership yesterday. Had the same problem.. driving along and no power, push accelerator nothing, but truck was idiling, all instrument readings were normal. Lasted about 15 seconds each time it happened then back to normal. The motor never died either time it happened.

The part # they replaced was - "22060-50011 lever assy, throttle", but in the repair notes it says "replaced accel position sensor". So im not really sure which part they replaced. The truck now has MUCH better pedal response. It NEVER felt like it has had this much power even when it was brand new. A night and day difference FOR SURE.

Dont think that was the "problem" though because it did it again once today but only for about 2 seconds, was kind of like a hiccup. Every time it has happened I have been on the highway driving at a constant and normal speed. The check engine light was already on because of a bad O2 sensor so Im not sure if it came on or not.

BTW my truck has 50k miles on it. Glad I have the "extended warranty". All I payed was my $50 deductable, and THEY payed for my O2 sensor to be replaced AND the throttle lever assembly at there cost of $491.22.

This may become a problem like the O2 sensors. My truck has 40,000 on it but I do alot of city driving...Mitch

Default replaced accerator pedal sensor

Just replaced my accelerator pedal sensor. WOW, what a difference. My truck never had so much power and throttle response, even when it was new. I have to be careful not to spin the tires from a dead stop. Just like the post above, I wonder if this part was faulty from the start? Now I hope it cures the cold start problem. Going to be -5F tomorrow morning, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
