I like the Downey kit over the KN kit due to the alumminum filter mount.Originally Posted by 1spiffyTRD
I would never put an aftermarket filter setup on my truck because of the oil that disrupts the MAS and coats the throttle body.
ya the throttle body's very sensitive on our trucks and It would make our A/F ratio's way too rich, not to mention the power loss in low rpms. I wouldnt want to put it on my truck either, it would totally kill the life of the engine too early. But my friend is stuck on this whole intake thing so whatever.Originally Posted by dezert_rida

About a year or so ago, there was a discussion on this topic. Maybe one of the moderators could dig it up. Anyway, I think the discussion was on a Tundra mod from stock to K&N -- There was scientific testing with Dynos and everything.
The results suggested that there was no horsepower or fuel economy increase. In fact, there was mention that the installation messed up a sensor 50% of the time (oil requirement on the K&N) and the filter allowed larger particulates into the engine.
After reading this, I decided that I don't want to install any aftermarket filters systems. Naturally all of this is subject to confirmation. I wouldn't mind being wrong here.

If your interested, I have the Downey Bracket, and the filter <-needs replacing. I used it on my first Tacoma. It was a 95.5 2wd extra cab auto V6. I had the Downey intake, Edlebrock headers, and a 3" Magnaflow cat back...the truck would run consistant 15.7s in the 1/4...not bad for a mini truck with an auto tranny!
Anyhow, I'm not sure how much the filter and bracket cost now adays, but you'd definately have to get a new filter from K&N, but the Bracket is in good shape...I'd be glad to get it out the garage. Make me an offer if your interested still.
Ram Air Performance System. That's club member Tremo's invention. Puts nice cold dense air into your engine. About $100, check it out, I'm pretty sure its in his profile and in the club store. I am going to get it as soon as I can swing it!Originally Posted by 3.4v6
