Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Boosting the V6", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Check out this site www.urdusa.com It was started by a guy named gadget that seems to know his stuff about Toyota trucks. I think the V6 Tundra and Tacoma share this same engine so what ever he offers for the Tacoma should work with the Tundra. I'd ask him though. The upgrades he has are for supercharged Tacomas. It is basically an upgrade kit for the supercharger. Not sure if it's what you are looking for, but it may come out cheaper than the second option you were looking at.

Yeah I know Gadget but thats for the TRD S/C more than likely I am going with the ATI S/C

I need to get my truck in and have them put it on the scope to make sure something isn't wrong with the vacuum or emmissions controls. At first, my supercharger increased my gas mileage on the highway using the cruise control. I've recently noticed the highway gas mileage has taken a serious drop.

I did just send an email with questions about torque increase estimates, warranty issues etc. on this kit. The price seems pretty good, and he does show the Tundra in his drop down list for vehicles when ordering. I will post any info I get in a reply. I am wondering how this kit compares with the 7th injector setup that TRD is still working on for the Tundra, as well as what kind of warranty issues I might run into with his kit.
Ok I REALLY want to supercharge my V6 Tundra and need everyones opinions.
TRD option @ 6~7 psi
or
ATI Procharger option @ 7~8 psi w/ intercooler.
The thing is that the ATI setup will be really $$$
Which woul you go for.
Well if your after higher boost, many places sell smaller pullies for the TRD supercharger, all the way up to 11psi, or 9psi. With Gadget's fuel mods you could tune the engine to run whatever boost you want, provided the injectors are big enough. He is also working on a water/alcohol mist system for the TRD charger.
I would go with the TRD just because there are tons of people running it without problems, and there is a lot of knowledge on how to tune the 3.4 with the TRD.
I spoke with Brian from urd.usa about the upgrade kit for the SC. It sounds like a very good kit, and for less money than the TRD 7th injector. They have dynoed with results of 20 more hp than the TRD setup, and with adjustable fuel ratios instead of 7th injector either on or off under boost. I must say that it sounds more refined of an option. Emissions tests are apparently cleaner as well.
But then, warranties are basically voided should there be a problem, in my case I even had dealer install SC for warranty reasons, including being covered in extended service contract.
And then for those in California, such as myself, it is not a CARB certified kit, and they will not be spending the money for CARB certification.
Brian also steered me to Tacomaterritory for more info on this and there seems to be a number of people running gadgets upgrade kit in California with no problem passing emissions, the problem would come in if caught under visual inspections. It would not be a good thing to get caught with an altered California vehicle that was not certified.
So for me I don't think, as good as gadgets kit seems to be, that I could chance going that direction.
But for those "lucky" enough to be outside of Cali and not worried about warranty issues, it seems to be a more complete option to further upgrade the SC V6.
On a side note, rumor has it that in the near future there is supposed to be other exhaust options for the V6 Tundra being released. That is all I know on that other than I will be sending an email in a few weeks as requested in an attempt to find out more particulars.
