Default autoRX or Lucas for tranny?

ok. 291,000 miles starting to get some shirting problems at 55-65 mph on my 2001 tundra.. besides digging into trany to replace parts. should i add Auto RX or Lucas tranny treatment? Or just drop the pan, clean it and replace with mobil1 atf. I am really thinking that i may be geting close to time to sell it and get a new truck what are your results using the tranny treatments. thanks eveyone for their opinions.

Drop pan, replace magnets and fresh new Castrol Import MV ATF will take it to 350K (none of those u mentioned are necessary). Never abuse the tranny it is on it last leg of its life!!!

Pure armchair opinion on your part. Have you used either of the products mentioned?

Auto-Rx is an excellent product for cleaning occluded transmission fluid orifices and passages, a major cause of harsh shifts, slipping, etc as the pressures drop and the clutch plates don't get engaged with sufficient force. There are quite a few members here who have had excellent results (me included). It no doubt saved my tranny from an early grave.

To the OP: if you are experiencing harsh shift points, try the ARX treatment.

I don't believe in any "treatments" in a tranny. ATFs have enough soup in them to clean up any gunk in the valve body. Thats just my opinion!!!

You don't "believe" just on general principle?

ATF provides hydraulic pressure, lubrication and cooling to the transmission & torque converter. Over time, especially if the ATF is repeatedly taken to the upper range of its operating temperatures through towing etc, it can shear and burn, and the byproducts can lodge in the VB orifices and galleries thus reducing line pressures, clutch pack engagement, etc. It doesn't take much to cause it either.

I can tell you from personal experience that ARX does work to eliminate harsh shifting, slipping, etc.

    Hi Duffy Atkinson.

What if one enjoys harsh shifts?

    Hi Burger!

Then I think one should dump a small can of ddvk's soup in their tranny and call it a day!
