Default Check Engine Light - Gas Cap - '03

Hi everyone, just thought i'd share the events of yesterday and today with you: My check engine light came on last night and has remained on ever since. I took my '03 in for a service check this morning and was told that many '03 Tundra's have a problem with the seal on the gas caps. Something mentioned in a few other threads already. Apparently replacement caps are en route and "there is nothing to be concerned about." I was told simply to ignore the light until my replacement cap arrives (approximately two weeks).

I'm just curious as to why it took 6000 miles on my truck for this problem to manifest itself? If the gas cap was "bad" from the start, why didn't the light come on right away? Or sooner than six months after the truck was purchased?

Strange...

Maybe the caps are cheap and only last 6 months or so. That one click always makes me think the thing isn't sealed, but seems to be working fine (so far).

Default Gas Cap - Light

On my car the light comes on every so often. I take it off and put it on again and no more light.
Just a Thought.
