I'd suggest cleaning the Throttle Body, as well as checking the air cleaner and such, those are two simple things to check to start. Also, the weight of your right foot will make a big difference in your mileage as well...

If theres one thing I dont like about my tundra its the crappy gas mileage. I have an auto V6 regcab and was getting 18-19 on the highway and 15-16 in town. I put 350 lbs sandbags in the back for winter. Now I get about 17 on the highway and who knows in town (havent checked yet). Its ONLY 350 lbs, this is a half-ton truck! I guess the super cold weather doesnt help either.
I have a lead foot and have been getting on average right not 15 mpg. You should check those maintenance items like filter, plugs, tire pressure, and fluids. If you still have the original tires at 31k miles I bet nothing else has been done to the truck. The original tires must be near bold now!

The air cleaner is new. Can I clean the throttle body myself or is it a dealer or local garage maintenace item

You can easily clean the TB yourself. Instructions are in the Garage if you're a member. If not it's fairly simple, pop off the air intake where it meets the intake manifold, and use a Throttle Body spray cleaner and some elbow grease and clean the TB. The engine will idle high for a bit (say 5-10 miles), then drop back down to a normal idle.

I usually average between 15 and 17 mpg to a tank. Of course highway road trips are much better. Now that it's cold, and they've switched us over to the oxygenated fuel, it'll drop 1-3 mpg average per tank. 11mpg means you're driving like a stuntman, or have serious problems. I'd bet its a heavy right foot though.
I tried to not have a heavy foot the last few tank fulls but still not any change in milage. When I said stock tires I meant size not wear they are new less than 1000 miles on them this truck was in show room condition inside and out and was very well maintained when I bought it about a month ago, with 31,000 miles now have about 32+ I am going to try new plugs and fuel filter clean the TB and see how that goes anything else before going to the dealer for help?
My filters have all been changed but I do need to clean the TB. My mileage drops 2 to 3 mpg in the winter also but when you consider how stiff the lubricants get when the temps are freezing to sub zero it's a price we pay living in the northern region. Ah yes, Spring's just around the corner.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
My '01 ( 195,000 mi ) gets 13.5 combined and 17 - 17.5 hwy to a US gallon ( we use imperial gallons up here which are 20% larger so our gas mileage numbers look bigger too, 17 combined 21.8 highway, long trip ). Vehicle also gets driven fairly hard so I am happy enough with the mileage. Winter mileage drops off here too due to the winter fuels ( increased alcohol conent ).
must be the older Tundras... I get an average of 18mpg in the city in my 06. perhaps a Kia would bette suit your need? LOL It's a full size truck for crying out loud
Buy a scan gauge and get instant MPG feedback. At 11 mpg, there's something wrong or your idea of going easy is a bit off. I get up to 23 on the highway (if I'm easy doing 65) and about 16.5 if I'm on it doing 75.

Cleaning the throttle body really helps. Do it every time you change air filters.
