    Question Motor sputtered out

I have an 03 with the V8 and had an issue for the first time. I know this is no big deal but was curious. I started my truck after it sat for 2-3 hours and it fired and died right away. I turned the key again and all was good. I am not concerned but just curious if this has happened to anyone else or if someone knows what happened. Not like it should matter but I changed to synthetic oil 2 days ago. Thanks in advance!!
    My other car.....isn't a car.

I've had it happen before, but it is usually when I don't hold the key long enough. It starts real quick and dies. It seems if I let go a split second too soon it does it.

That happened to me once 2 months after I bought my truck.Sometimes wierd things happen. Unless it does that regularly you should be fine.

The cranking on start-up is always followed by a big vroom. But sometimes it's followed by a put-put-put and then a soft vroom.

The 2003 starter is different. All you have to do is turn the key, and even if you let go it keeps cranking until it starts. So that shouldn't be an issue with newer models. Mine has never died, so I can't really say.

    Default not entirely true

I've had occasions where I would turn the key and let go right away, the engine would sputter and die. It doesn't crank until it starts. If you notice this, just push the key over and hold it until the engine starts up.

Must be a gremlin. My 2000 does it and I don't think it's from early key release. Mine does it often enough that I make certain I hold the key till it starts.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???

Probably related to the same gremlin that resides with the Vikings.

Maybe 6 times in 3 years mine has failed to start on the first try. Always after sitting for 3 to 5 hours, never after sitting over night. When it did start the engine would run a little rough for a few seconds like it was partially flooded. Has happened in both winter and summer. I thought that maybe I was releasing the key to soon except one time I realized the engine wasn't starting and held the key for what seemed to be twice as long as normal before it started. Same thing, ran rough for a few seconds. I mentioned this to a Toyota mechanic and said that I thought I might have my foot on the gas pedal without realizing it (I had heard that can cause a problem with fuel injected engines) and he said that would make no difference in the Tundra. Didn't ask him why but I'll bet the throttle motor does its own thing on startup in spite of someones big feet.
