I am pretty much decided on the single exhaust vs. dual - for the low end torque reason. I have heard the dual Borla that is a Port Installed Option @ Southeast on a truck at the dealer - but was wondering about the two options I am giving serious consideration - the single, side exit Borla and the Gibson exhaust. Both are available at ExhaustKing.com
Does anyone have experience with these two - I would like a little growl, but not something to wake the neighbors, scare the co-workers and little children.
You might get the "little growl" you want just by replacing the resonator with a straight pipe. Try that before you spend a bundle for too much growl.

Definetly don't get the Gibson, I have one I will give you if you want it(laying in my basement). It will drive you crazy with the 2000 rpm drone. I went to the TRD dual. I think the Gibson cost more low end torque too...Mitch

spin tech is another option. I have a pro street muffler, dumped. It doesnt have too much drone around 2000 rpms, and the cost vs. effect is great. My muffler, with new pipes installed, was a total of $145. I am very happy with my setup so far, but I kind of wish I didn't dump it -- There would be very little, if any, drone if you retain the pipes after the muffler.
I have the Gibson single side exhaust system and while the fit and finish is quite good and it installs easily enough (it only took me about 30 minutes with a friend's help) I'm not at all happy with the sound. Under acceleration it emits a VERY noticeable hissing noise, NOT the engine growl/rumble I hear most other trucks with aftermarket systems make. I realize you will not get the same quality of sound from a single pipe that you will from duals but the Gibson just doesn't come close to cutting it. I agree with you on the single exhaust system idea but I definitely wish I'd gone with Borla. Do yourself a favor and avoid Gibson. I seem to remember seeing somewhere that TRD makes a single exhaust system for the Tundra. I could be wrong though.
Tomorow is our annual "whatever you want to throw away we will pick it up day". So my Gibson is laying on the street waiting for the garbage man to come and get it. If anyone is within driving distance to me if they can make it here before the "g-man" gets it can have it and I will give them th chrome tip that goes on it. The exhaust is in fine shape but you cannot get it apart to ship it to someone after you clamp it together(it is to long to ship for most carriers) and I need the storage space, so out she goes.
the borla single side exhaust sounds great, it has a noticible rumble but is not overwhelming at highway speed its nice to hear when its warm out and the windows are down...
Dealer says the noise I've been hearing is loose baffels and they can fix for $400. I assume they are inside the muffler and when I checked there is a pipe welded to the front and to the back of the muffler plus hangers welded to the pipes. Seems to me that it is an expensive design when it come to muffler replacement. The service manager is going to see what he can do to help me out warranty wise (2000 32K miles) Question is, maybe I'd be better off spending my money on a new duel setup. What do you think?

Loose baffles?...where?...inside the muffler? That's an odd one.
What do you want?
The original system is 409 stainless steel. If you want to keep a single system, just have a good muffler welded in.
If you want a louder system, get a so-called "performance" muffler. It'll make your truck sound like it's performing better. True duals have the best sound, but not the best power.
If you want an expensive system, put your $400 toward either duals with an x-pipe crossover or a shiny 304 stainless steel single system, single or double outlet.

I agree with mitchr. I had the Gibson on my 01 and what a piece of crap. Before I put it on I could "powerbrake" it to get the tires spinning. After I put the exhaust on, the tires wouldn't spin at all!! I took the Gibson off and put the stock system back on and gained my low end back. I bought a spintech muffler and used the stock pipes--what a difference. Please don't waste your money. The spintech is proven on the dyno. Just ask V8toilet.
