Lightbulb Why is Fuel/Air Mix ratio important? Read this - Very Informative

Excellent read on how important fuel mix ratios are in achieving maximum power.. This article also has graphs to explain clearly why it is important to maintain a properly balanced fuel/air mix in a engine.

whoa...nice article. I like the little blurb about the rotary valve system...a neat concept I hope makes it to a viable system.

Informative article, I wonder why OBD2 hasn't been flashed or reprogrammed like many people do with Chevy trucks? The Chevy guys buy this hypertech programmer that reprograms the computer. Granted it's not tuned to the specific vehicle like a Unichip dealer would do but the fact that the stock computer can be tuned makes me wonder why one would need a piggy back computer to do the same thing.

Maybe it has to do with the complexity of tuning the stock computer!

A guy named Jim Conforti has an OBD2 flash programmer available for '96+ BMW engines. It is called the Shark Injector. For more info, just do a search on google. I've often thought about sending him an email to see if he would be interested in developing something similar for Toyotas. Here is a link to more info on the Shark Injector >>> http://www.sharked.com/chips.html and here is a NY Times article featuring Conforti >>> http://www.nytimes.com/library/auto/051700wall.html

GM shares their ECU source code with the aftermarket,Toyota on the other hand isn't that willing to share.

Yep...I concur...this is just what I've heard, many have tried but nobody has been able to crack their source code. Even TRD uses a piggyback!! And this is Toyotas stance on aftermarket...I've learned first handed. I am still awaiting aproval on TRD billet cover going on 6 months....they just would prefer reliability over performance / aftermarket...good and bad.

with the cone-style intakes...is the reason for low-end loss due to improper fuel ratio? the ecu isn't trimming the ratio properly, so it runs rich?

TRD even makes an intake. Whats the big deal with them upgrading the engine and supercharger components when It was common back in the day and STILL is with the turbo cars especially the all mighty Supra.
