Verndog got a sweet intake system from True Flow for free for the dyno tune for the UniCHip. I want one. I emailed one of True flows distributers (the onlyone that caries the tundra's model) to see if I could just get the tube, and this is what he had to say:

Ron,
Thanks for your interest in True Flow products. The current situation with the intake kits does not permit me to sell you the components, because like you I would be stuck with an unsaleable filter. I will offer you a good deal on a compete kit if you are interested. I will offer you a $20 dollar discount on the product and right now we have free domestic shipping for orders over $100. If you would like a kit, please email me back and I will process your order by hand since the price is not the same on our website. Our prices and shipping policy make us the best priced place to shop on the internet or anywhere for that matter. Our prices are the lowest and we have great customer service.
Thanks again for your interest in these products, and hope we here back from you soon.
This is not what I was hoping for, as the kits retail for $266.40.
I do not want the filter, as I have found that no drop in can beat the paper filter for hp gain. all I really need is the tubing.
What says everyone here?
ron

i says we see what AC has to say, since he mentioned he could source the pipe with the proper bends, and look through the lists of couplings and see if we can find something that will work.

I will try to get info from Jack on this. It was donated as a test unit and I am not certain they are available yet. I was put together like it is ready for resale...but that price is too high for what they are selling IMO.

I would caution just drilling and inserting these fittings into tube. I will restict flow and likely will not react the same. The tube needs to retain a smooth inside dia.
I am going to look into getting these made as well... we can see where we can get the best deal. Someone try to find the end peice adapters (red rubber). I will check sizes and get back to who wants to take this on this weekend.

the rubber couplers are no problem, they can be found here in an assortment of colors, as long as you like red, blue and black.

exactly...i thought i mentioned that in this thread, but it was in the unichip thread ...sorry, i'm dirtying things...
what i mentioned over there was that it'd be best to drill appropriate holes in the tube and braze on appropriate connections for the vacuum lines.
actually, an easier way would be to get new lines, or extend the existing lines, to the top of the airbox, running the lines along existing routes where possible. that'd keep the tube clean, and still allow the vacuum lines to receive filtered air.
...got an update on the trueflow unit...give it a little time, and for now let's not sweat our own cash flow on a copy until we see how the finished true flow product turns out (uh, and the price).

nope, just a couple words passed on to me from a buddy in the know that we oughtta hang tight and see how everything turns out, ie give it a few weeks for the true flow guys to button everything up with the kit, then consider the options.
i will admit my curiousity has been sparked by the idea of a filter that flows like a k&n but traps better than oem paper, and i like the smooth tube...every aeroE digs stuff like that. what i'm waiting for is a final cost and justification for buying the kit (ie the tube and the $$$) rather than just the filter (less $$$), and that's something we'll hopefully hear in the next couple weeks.

the only store I found it for the tundra charges $266, and will not part out the kit. The filter itself cost $46. I am prob going to stay with oem paper, but would like the tube to smooth out the airway. If more places start to sell the kit and the price comes down, then that's cool.

i want one but not for $200+ or even $100.00 ....this tube alone should be about $45-65 and i will not pay anything over that - im sure we could find some plastic company to make these for us at maybe 100 at a time real real cheap -
perhaps we should try to find the source - i doubt truflow or whatever has there own plastic factory - whos good at hacking

Its not a plastic tube, it's metal that is powder coated with a light textured paint. Not sure what the coating is...but I'm thinking of chrome-ceramic coating the one I got....they'll do it for $35.00

o000ooo m3! m3333!!!1!one!!1!
...oh...you mean like with a cutting implement of some sort .
i am skeptical regarding the coating on the tube. note this is different from cynicism, however from my own experience "in the field" thermally reflective coatings can be relatively simple, as simple as making a surface reflective in the visible range, since the near IR is what's providing the most heat outside the visible range. a block glows like a !@#$ing lightbulb in the near IR. put more bluntly, a shiny chromed surface will reflect more heat than a black matte finish. ask anyone with a black leather interior (or even black paint), they'll have tactile experience . "space" blankets are designed the same way, insulator on the inside with reflectant on the outside, not the other way around. it'd be better if it were a thick black plastic tube with a chrome finish, if it's really to keep heat out...a dark matte coating like what you describe will equalize faster than chrome, so even if it initially insulates better, long term exposure under the hood will negate any benefit from the coating.
actually, kevin what you describe (getting a shiny finish) is actually the best idea...shiny on the inside, insulator in the middle, shiny on the outside, assuming that paint is an insulator. best bet? get a chrome tube (like those otto intakes), squirt the outside with bed liner, then squirt again with gloss white or metallic silver. it really is that simple, ya dont need 1000$/gallon uber stealth heat absorbing intake paint...
ANYWAY...i'd bet a beer or two that the tube and its coating have little to do with anything at all since incoming air doesnt spend long enough in the pipe to change temperature.
the filter however, i like that filter...if it flows like a k&n and filters better than oem paper, i *will* get just the filter, never mind the tube.
however, like i said before, it might be a good idea to give them a little time to finish the system and then maybe we can ask about a group order or something.
