Except for the whole oil filter/skid plate thingy. The Amsoil dealer had a filter relocation kit on sale for $40, and I am forever kicking myself that I didn't pick it up...

It basically a kit that relocates the screw on fitting for your oil filter to a place where it can be easily reached...

Here's one:

Sean,

I can just hear it now:
"Honey, I bought a new skidplate..."
"Great, what's it do?"
"Well. it replaces the one I had on there before...it makes it easier to change the oil"
"Change the OIL, why would you need to change your OIL? Besides, didn't you just buy brakes for the truck? Don't you love me? Buy me shiny things!"
"I did, I bought you a skid plate.."

Actually, I am going to get the skid row plate as soon as I get the money...one step at a time. Is that what you have? Does the hole make life easier?

No problem. My '03 2wd is high enough for me to roll onto my side, though my shoulder hits the skid plate.
Heck, I changed the '04 Rav4 without a jack. The drain pan barely cleared the oil pan, but it worked fine.

...sorry, it's been one of those days.

yeah, the hole makes life easier. if i can stop cracking up and get my head outta the gutter for a minute, i could even tell you the skid plate has cutouts for easy access.

dangit, back in the gutter again ...

if you take a look at the skidplates.com website, they have a very good picture showing access to the oil filter, and the drain cutout as well. i never have to drop the skid plate for an oil change any more.

Blue, whatever you do stay away from the FRAM filterrs with PTFE (Teflon) if them. This is pure gargabge.
IMO some filters are slightly better than others, but I always stay with the OEM Toyota ones for the Tundra. Good thing about your Ranger is that the FL-1A (PH8A) is like the most common filter in the US. I think almost every Ford uses them, so you have lots of options. When I had my 98 Ranger I used to use the Mobil 1 Oil and Filters--I have since switched to Amsoil and Toy filters...

Default My two cents ...

So far, I've only had my 2001 Tundra for a month and a half and I took it to Toyota for the one oil change I did based on the time frame on the sticker but I can relate to one bad Jiffy Lube experience. I once took my 1991 Eclipse there and had the oil done, ran it out and it was fine for a minute sputtered and died and I was able to pull it to a place right next to it. I walked up to them and said what did you all do? Someone comes with me to go check it and finds out they forgot to plug the fuel line back in.

Default Re: EZ Lube/Jiffy Lube Experiences

A friend sent me a video of Channel 4 in Los Angeles (NBC) had a special segment about Jiffy Lube not performing certain services (transmission flush) and had an investigative report about it. Pretty ludicrous I'd say. This is why I do not trust repair shops/dealers/anywhere I can not watch unless I completely know and trust the person.
