4.7l Engine Oil Capacity?

The dipstick seems to be a bit short for accurate measurement. I have the identical issue with my '03 V8.

I just fill it up with all 7 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-30 SuperSyn!

Folks the problem is the dipstick!!! The guide tube holds oil in its wall using surface tension, the stick dragging against the walls of the tube pulls oil onto the dipstick and here lies the problem.

I've been fighting this for four years on four different Tundras.

My guess is it should take 6+- quarts, however, I've seen it look like full with five quarts.

I can't get a solid reading if I follow SOP and slowly remove, wipe, replace, and remove. It's all over the place. If I look carefully, there's a place on the stick where it's definitely solid, all the way across, then a fine line up one side or the other.
If I remove, wipe, then STAB the stick in and out quickly, I get a much more repeatable level. There's still some oil above the solid point, but it's much clearer. Also, be sure to check the front AND back of the stick... hint... the low side is the right one.

6.5 qts with the stock filter, 7 qts with the ML301 (large can).

I'd buy 5 qt. jugs at a time. Use 1 and 2/5 jugs each change and save the other 3/5 for next time. You can pour the extra 1/5 into a qt. bottle and keep it in the truck just in case.

Strange....I have used Mobil 1 5w30 and a Mobil 1 M-102 oil filter since new on my 2001 Tundra EC. It has 110,000 and still running strong without any oil loss issues. Since turning 100,000 miles, I started changing every 5000 miles and consistently have used 6.5 to reach the "full" mark on the dipstick.

I have trouble reading my 2001 4.7 dipstick. The problem is one side will read in between the F dot and the Add dot, but the other side has oil way above the dots! I;m talking about 4 or 5 inches above. I hate it because I let everything drain out and put in 6.5 quarts like the book says and i dont know if it is needing another quarter or half a quart or I have put way too much in. So now I just put 6.5 quarts in and leave it. I don't trust my dip stick and I dont dare trust anyone to change the oil for me because they might read the high side of the dipstick and not put but 4 or 5 quarts. Do I have the wrong dipstick? Anyone else have this problem?
