I have a 2003 Tacoma V6 4x4 and I was wondering which spark plugs you guys use. I just bought some Bosch +2 plugs, but I've heard that most of the Japanese vehicle respond best with NGK's.
Does anyone have experience with the Bosch +2's?
I know the truck uses dual ground electrode plugs and I thought that these would work well.
Any suggestions?Recommendations?
What is wrong with the OEM plugs? I'm pretty sure they are NGK's from the factory...
Contrary to marketing hype, you aren't going to see improved HP or fuel economy from a spark plug change unless the ones you have are either bad or fouled.

I'd stay away from the Bosch plugs- (especially the +4's)
They aren't worth the extra money-
Don't last as long as they are advertised-
Don't really offer any added benefits over the OEM's
I agree with this:
The last set of those plugs i removed from a toyota, i also had to replace the coil packs. they were melted. Toyota has a patent on the heat range of their spark plugs. That why it is best to use OEM (NGK/DENSO) plugs. Or switch to the recommended IRIDIUM plugs. They work best with a 160 TRD thermostat.
and/or a S/C.
Do the Densos(dual ground electrodes) need to be gapped?
If so, then how?
Thanks, Chris.
THey are supposedly Pre-Gapped and are boxed with a plastic sleeve protector.
HOWEVER!, I still check the gaps before I install them to make sure- I have found some miss gapped even from the factory-
-How much extra work is it really? And the guage is only about 5 bucks.
For the dual electrodes - I check between the tip of the center to EACH of the side/dual electrodes.

I just replaced mine in my T-100 a couple weeks ago with the OEM Toyota Dual Grounds. 4 of the 6 plugs out of the box were gapped considerably of spec.
On a related note, the oem plugs I took out only had about 25K miles on them and looked pretty bad. All had pitted/burned electrodes which caused extremely wide gaps (no wonder it wasn't idling good and hesitated when accelerating!!). Owners manual says to replace at 30K miles, based on this, I will be atleast checking (and probably replacing) much more often.
I have no major engine modifications. I have TRD exhaust and am debating on whether or not to get TRD headers. I am at around 26k miles and was wondering if I should start paying attention to my plugs. I noticed that the Supercharger/7th package recommends using:
TRD PART: 00602-17620-262 Denso IK20 @ .0032"
Could I use those same plugs in my truck with my current setup .. or is that a big "no no"
I was thinking about putting in the TRD thermostat, TRD A/T cooler, and the plugs mentioned above and eventually adding the headers near the end of the summer!
>> I will get picks of my truck up sometime this weekend.
