Angry Belt Noise

I am having problems with a belt on my 2001 tundra. It sounds like a cat squeeling under my hood. It goes away after the truck has run for awhile, and is less noticeable with the AC on. The mechanic said there is nothing wrong with the belt and that I should just put dressing on the belt. This has not helped. Could it be tensioner? Any ideas? Thanks,

Belt dressing is a low-budget short-term solution and not a "repair".
Replace the belt, but the tensioner may be shot as well.

I had the very same problem with my 2002 AC a few months ago. It got to a point were it became embarrassing to drive. I tried the belt dressing and it made it worse. My brother is a master mechanic in Australia, so during one of our conversations I mentions this problem to him. He suggested I use some grease on the belt. I was a bit to say the least. I took his advise and put some grease on both sides of the belt. It worked like a charm, and 2K miles later, it still worked great. I traded my 2002 AC for a 2004 Double Cab a month ago . It's absolutely gorgeous

Good luck

Lightbulb Squeek!

My 2002 Tundra V8 suffered from the same squeeking you have described. I thought it might have something to do with the A/C as it seemed to be loudest only when the A/C was on. I took it to the dealer and found out that I was wrong. The mechanic replaced the belt tensioner (and the belt just because he had it apart I guess).

That was about 8,000 miles ago and I haven't had a squeek since. The best part was that I had 62,000 miles on the truck and they covered it under the warranty.

I hope this helps, even if your Tundra is out of warranty it should not be an expensive fix. Good luck!
