Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra Exhaust", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I know I know for some reason I am stuck on this subject. In past post we have noticed that the Tundra stock exhaust is well tuned and any after market system would more than likely decrease torque and mpg. It seems everything I read seems to beg the differ. I do not know if this is a marketing scam or what????
Muffler housing and double wall exhaust tips are highly polished with the TRD logo etched on the outer sides of the tips. This system is legal in all 50 states and does not exceed the regulatory 95 dB sound levels. Peak performance offers up to a 4.8% ft/lb gain of torque, as well as up to an additional 8 HP over stock. This system is used but in like new condition. It fits all V8 and V6 Tundra’s 2000 and up.
the catch is in the phrase "up to". the gains are at peak output, they dont mention the losses down lower in the rpm range.
also, the downside people found was with the duals, dunno about the single exhaust, also people found negatives when they increased pipe size or added duals as opposed to changing to a higher flow muffler.

What he said.
Just replace the muffler and you'll realize gains and money in your pocket.

I have the TRD exhaust and have not noticed any change in performance either positive or negative. When I first installed it my mpg went down, but that was because I kept punching it so I can hear it. Honestly, if you get the TRD exhaust you are pretty much getting it for looks and sound. Oh yeah, it's not very loud either. It's actually probably one of the quieter exhaust systems.

I 2nd that thought. I have the TRD duals and did not notice any difference in performance. I think it is mainly because the computer is governing power output below 3k rpms anyway on 03 and newer trucks. My time 0-60 didnt drop any.
There was a noticable gain about 1000 miles on the ODO after installing the JBA headers though. Now my truck, at 3k RPMs, between the added power of the JBA headers and the compuer (finally) opening the throttle all the way the thing just takes off. So much so it damn near breaks the tires loose at about 30mph. So to get the best accelleration ive found i need to modulate the throtle from a dead stop so that my foot is all the way to the floor at the same time the engine hits 3k rpm, then its like the truck has a turbo or something. BIG UMPH>>>>GONE!
